They need money. From the guardian "Since you’re here… … we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading the Guardian than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. And unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. The Guardian’s independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too. The Guardian is editorially independent, meaning we set our own agenda. Our journalism is free from commercial bias and not influenced by billionaire owners, politicians or shareholders. No one edits our Editor. No one steers our opinion. This is important because it enables us to give a voice to the voiceless, challenge the powerful and hold them to account. It’s what makes us different to so many others in the media, at a time when factual, honest reporting is critical. If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps to support it, our future would be much more secure. You can support the Guardian with a monthly contribution of £5, £10 or £20 – and it only takes a minute. Thank you. Support The Guardian

What's your point? You don't like the term 'voiceless' being used - or that they lean left?

I rather like the Guardian. Yes, it is everything you think it is and more but I feel that it is invaluable in terms of knowing what the enemy are thinking. What is the point of only reading what you already agree with? That sort of echo chamber mentality is why we are such a divided nation. If you want to effectively combat the progressive agenda then you have to arm yourselves with an understanding of what it's proponents are thinking. Sure the likes of Moinbot and Owen Jones are bats*** crazy but they also offer an insight into the latest trends of the soc.lib Zeitgeist and you need to know what you are up against because invariably they do represent a strand of political thought that does hold a real degree of sway. Read the New Statesman as well. If we are to stop these b******s from destroying Western Civilization, as I believe is their desire, then they need studying.

Great paper for Palace coverage, maybe you should buy the sun for your ‘proud English’ bulls*** and the Guardian for the sport?

The Guardian and the Independent have hitched their stars totally to the defeat of Brexit. I have a suspicion that if Brexit goes ahead then both newspapers will fall.

I read the Guardian as part of my daily routine with other newspapers (Telegraph, Mail) for a broad spectrum of the news and opinion, though its columnists are weird and irritating. As for their contribution model, it's actually working for them and I believe the paper gets as much, if not more, in donations as it does from banner ads. It's good to see a financial model working well for a newspaper in these troubled times. Like good socialists, they've managed to squander millions of pounds from the trust fund set up for them many years ago. And the paper constantly criticises tax havens, yet the Guardian Media Group uses offshore trusts.

I am confused. The Guradian (see what i did there) is a left of centre paper which presumably appeals to that spectrum of our society. I am also being told that most people in this country support Corbyn and the Labour party? So if that is all true then why is the Guardian struggeling for readership? Surely all the teachers and nurses are not reading The Scum or the Daily Fail? Besides the Guardian already receives a taxpayer subsidy. The BBC has revealed it buys about £200-£300,000 worth of its papers each year. Which is curious because everybody at the Beeb seems to be earning good money so you think they could afford to buy their own newspaper. By the way for those who have not guessed this is not meant to be a serious post.
