I have just read on twitter that Lille are trying to sign Sakho for £13 million. At first blush, I thought that this was obviously rubbish, but if we are trying to trim the wage bill then perhaps... thoughts?

My first thought is what is the source on Twitter? This was a Mirror story, but they've since pulled it. My second thought is that, IF Lille really are offering £13m for a player that cost us twice that a year ago, they must either be having a laugh or have taken collective leave of their senses.

They are allegedly offering Sakho a reduction in wages too

Right. I think this is definately a "move on, nothing to see here".

Agree,,why would we want to lose £13m on any deal in less than 12 months!!

I saw this as part of a Google roundup of Palace related "news." I offer Rudyard Kipling as my response.

If

BY RUDYARD KIPLING

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

If we wanted to sell him then I think we would make our money back. However I really can't see us wanting to sell him so it becomes irrelevant.

With the players already gone, we have already trimmed our wages quite significantly.

If we’re willing to take a massive loss on our best defender then we might as well shut up shop for the season and get ready for some good old Tuesday night games in 2019/20. Genuinely don’t see any reason this would happen unless we’re actually in a direr financial situation than previously realised.

I don’t think palace need the money that desperately. Sakho has been a solid signing and if anything. Especially with this market. Should be sold for 40+. He is not going to take a pay cut. Especially at that age. Unless we had some major new cb. I don’t see him or Tomkins going anywhere
