Flying from Bandar Seri Begawan to Miri International, we were on a good sized jet. Arriving above Miri we noticed we were circling

In the end the pilot said there didn't seem to be anyone in Air Traffic Control so he had radio'd someone and asked them to ring Miri on the phone. If that didn't work we'd have to go back

We landed eventually

Then, returning from Kuching, we arrived just before the flight and the lady I was with told me it was too late to board

I said I can see the plane, surely we can push our way on. She said no, it's too late. I said again oh come on, we can do this. At which point she explained to me that no, the ground staff were her cousins. And so were the air staff. And so was the pilot. We really couldn't get on. That told me.

We went on holiday to Lanzarote a few years ago with another family when the ash cloud grounded all flights. We rented a villa so had flights only with the airlines. we flew with Thomas Cook who put us up in a decent hotel full board whilst our friends flew with Ryanair who's response was tough luck, you're on your own but we will try and get you home as soon as possible.

Great stories keep them coming

In 2003 me my wife and 18 month old son got the date of departure mixed up as we were flying just after midnight we had missed a flight from Bangkok to London via Helsinki with finn air.
We raced to the airport in the morning and they managed to squeeze us on a flight that evening and charged us £50 quid administration fee.. We were apologising profusely and they were really lovely and they said it happens, they said when we saw you had not checked in the night before we were worried the baby was unwell or there was a big problem.

Thanks to finn air and there kind treatment as me and the wife were worried it was going to cost us a lot of money...

I see you as more a Puerto del Carmen kind of fella rather than Costa Teguise.

Missed a connecting flight in Madrid to Buenos Aires in 2006. It was BA's fault as the flight from heathrow left an hour late.

Madrid Airport was pretty much closed and empty (around midnight) but there were about 20 of us that were affected so we got hold of the airline via the information desk and were put up in a 4 star hotel for the evening with connecting flight the following day. Fortunately i'd booked a flight from Buenos Aires up to Iguacu a couple of days after our originally planned arrival, so ended up touching down in Buenos Aires, booking into our hotel and then getting a cab the following morning back out to Iguacu...so fortunately all worked out ok.

I have twice missed flights and on both occasions I was travelling on business to Guernsey.
The first time was simply a case of getting stuck in traffic on the way to Gatwick.
The second time I pitched up to check in for the 10.00 fight to Guernsey to be told I had actually booked the 10.00 flight from Guernsey. I had also booked my return flight the wrong way round. I managed to rebook the return flight at nominal cost but to get to Guernsey to catch that return flight I had to shell out considerably with another airline!

I remember years ago, me and a mate went for a cheap holiday to Lanzarote and got the date of return wrong. We had packed up and then sat waiting in the hotel lobby waiting to be picked up for transit to the airport. After a while sitting there, a rep came over to us and told us that we were not going home until the following day. So, we unpacked, went back to sitting by the pool and both felt like a right couple of numpties. Can't believe that we BOTH got the date wrong, though.

40 years ago maybe but nowadays I prefer the more upmarket Playa Blanca

At least you didn't have to go to Guernsey.

I was on the last flight of the day between Jersey and Exeter a few years ago. Take of had been delayed and I was sat next to a large pompous woman who was complaining about everything, like she had been more inconvenienced than anyone else.

The flight was scheduled to to a pick up and drop off in Guernsey. After circling it a few times the pilot announced the couldn't land due to low cloud/fog.

All the Guernsey bound passengers would have to spend the night in an Exeter hotel. You could hear the collective sigh down the plan when people realised they were stuck in mid-air and their was nothing I could do.

It turned out the annoying woman should have been getting off in Guernsey. She complained to the stewardess about her predicament, and was told politely but firmly that if she looks out the window, you cannot see the island, let alone the runway.

I would have felt bad for the woman, but her complaint had delayed my beer order.

1. Turned up late to an Easyjet flight. Had to buy new tickets for the next flight,...at increased cost.

2. Missed a flight from Dublin to London with British Midland by an hour. They put us on the next flight (2 hour wait, and if there was enough room) free of charge.

3. Will never ever, ever fly BA again. A few experiences and too boring to tell.

I disengage, I turn the page.

Missed one outbound of a return ticket because I couldn’t find my passport days before. Cost a bundle.

Is there a genuine reason you can’t just buy a single and use the inbound return ticket you’ve already paid for? Or is it just to make money out of you?
