Was just speaking to a Brentford supporting mate who rates Watkins very highly. He can play right, left of up top and likes to take the ball from deep. Sounds like someone who could add real depth. Just because players aren't established names from top leagues doesn't mean they don't have potential to be excellent. Trippier was playing for Burnely in the championship in 2014, Harry Maguire was in League One in 2014 and the championship in 2016. That being said, I've never heard of this bloke. Quick bit of research on him and he looks a decent young player that could provide some good squad depth with the possibility of more as he develops.

Personally, I think it’s the route we should be looking at. Leicester just picked up he maddison from Norwich who looks unreal. Fed up of being linked to players I’ve never heard of, but just becuase he plays for a decent side in Europe, we all think he is going to be quality. There are some good players in the lower leagues. We shouldn’t just look down on a player becuase he plays for Brentford.

The story goes that Brentford don't want to sell and so will demand a big fee. I'm all for dipping into the lower leagues, but if we're on a tight budget then it may not be the time to risk a big chunk of our budget on a player with one season in the Championship.

Turn the clock back to 1985 - Imagine some people's reaction on here to a rumour that Crystal Palace interested in signing Greenwich Borough's Ian Wright..!! There would have been uproar - same old Palace no ambition - trying to do things on the cheap, he must be rubbish only plays for Greenwich Borough - da de da....!! There are gold nuggets in the lower leagues - just need identifying, given the opportunity and nurturing..!! I for one would be far more excited about unearthing and giving an opportunity to a lower league talent that had commitment and desire to succeed and turned into something special e.g. Dele Ali. As opposed to paying £M's for an over hyped and over rated average mercenary with no commitment or desire other than the money..!! COYP
