Although slightly fortuitous in the end tonight, I felt all tournament our shape, tactics, discipline and togetherness of the squad has been exemplarary. It wasn't a sparkling performance but we didn't rise to provocation and we managed the game well Ironically our tactics are the same as those deployed by Hoddle , 3 at the back, playing a wing back system. It plays to our strengths Also destroys the myth there were no decent English managers to lead the England team. All the wasted years under Stupid Sven and Clueless Capello

No. Seriously, no. It was nothing about tactics. It was a normal game between 2 balanced teams, no magic don by Southgate to win it. Not a world discovery to play 3 defenders at the back. In eliminatory matches it's actually proven that defending well and counter attacking can get you past better opponents in 90 or 180 minutes. Hard thing when you play 5 defenders is to score many goals, qualify from the qualifying group or to win a league

No quality to unlock a defence because Zaha wasn’t selected and then the passion/timing thing happening. Sterling is cr@p at this level.

Southgate completely changed a mentality that had become toxic. He’s got fresh new ideas (new for england), picks a team to play a system, and sticks by his guns. COME ON ENGLAND

Never thought Southgate would be good as England manager. Leaving out RLC for Alli and leaving Sterling in showed me that he doesn't know his best team However he has surprised me. He has created a good spirit to the team and that's always a good start. As for best manager since.... Some just get too carried away. Tonight could how gone very wrong. Luckily it didn't.

Just lucky, lucky, lucky. Nothing to do with tactics. Ineffective set pieces, our inability to shoot at goal from open play in 120+ minutes and lack of discipline exhibited from a few of our "top" football professionals who got themselves drawn into tit for tats with Columbian thugs. Overall a poor spectacle of a game but admittedly, an excellent penalty shoot out.

Southgate is a below average manager who happens to be a 'yes' man for the FA and so was given the job. He's in charge of an average set of players who have had an easy group and came second.....losing the one game against a reasonably good side. We couldn't even beat Columbia over 120 minutes. We have an amazing draw.....again, luck. Bobby Robson's team would make mince-meat of this team.....Venables side also.....Where's the Gascoigne....We don't even have a Beckham or anyone good at set pieces. Have to stop you there, our best chances came from set pieces, several free headers that would normally be in the net, were not. Thats not tactical problems, thats poor finishing.

Absolute nonsense, our discipline was superb, we didn't rise to the provocation to the point where Colombia lost their heads. Compare that to 98 with Beckham and 2006 with Rooney
