Now THIS is is something to get excited about. Have to say I cannot see how we’d pull it off but what a coup this would be if true. If the rumour of interest is even accurate to begin with it’s a sign that we’re heading in the exact right direction RE targets, which is excellent news.

But how does this make sense if Vicente Guaita is, as previous information said, signing after a pre-contract deal? I'm confused-unless a) this is a false rumour or b)the Guaita story is wrong. Anyone out there know which is the case?

Anyone out there know which is the case? Indeed. It would be a coup to sign Lafont, and the only logic for him joining would be that he would be assured the starting spot that he may not get at the bigger club he'd eventually like to end up at. We're not going to pay Guiata's wages for him to sit on the bench, and we're not going to sign Lafont to be his understudy.

Crystal Palace have been in talks with the entourage of Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont and have promised to make him their new number one if he agrees to join this summer. [L’Equipe] It would be madness to make this promise to a 19 year old and with Guaita coming this summer anyway, this rumour makes no sense at all.

From the albeit limited amount I’ve seen of both, I’d say Lafont is already a better goalkeeper than Guaita. I agree it may well be bulls*** but I think we need to stop marginalising ourselves to the ideology of experience being the be all and end all. This kids made 105 first team appearances at 19 and at the top level. French league or not, that’s ridiculously impressive. Especially in a team fighting relegation so it’s safe to say he’s faced his fair share of shots! The more time goes on, the more I suspect something strange is occurring with Guaita. The club would literally have no reason not to make an announcement at this stage if the deal was genuinely set in stone. Both clubs & the player have finished their respective seasons and an agreement in principle would now surely be a formality. What I hope above everything else is that we’re not furiously trying to convince Guaita to buy into the vision when he’s already had his head turned. I’m no fan of Hennessey, but in a team under Roys leadership that seems to be able to play well enough, forcing a new goalkeeper in as a replacement just seems a bit pointless. Either way, as I said previously, players of this kids ilk is the exact right idea. With the money involved in the Premier Legaue, we’re a club who can take advantage of potential world beaters from clubs abroad as the bigger clubs are yet to decide whether they are quite ready for them. It would appear Lafont falls into that particular category.

While Football Manager is not infallible, he's a top 5/10 young keeper in the world. Would be huge!

I would thought our last experience of a French keeper is enough to put us off going there again.

Interesting update, believe Arsenal were in for him for a while so be surprised to see us pull this one off. Nice to be linked, what a signing if we do.

Sorry guys but I never saw a public statement from the club nor any parties linked with Guaita stating he is joining for me the deal is not done. It will be done only when the club will publish a public statement saying it clearly.
