Hopefully going to Russia from England late and just about 6 days before Tunisia might help.

Harry is right. England can win the World Cup. To do so they will need to finish first or second in their group, and then win four knock-out games. By contrast the Netherlands aka ‘Holland’ can’t win it. The correct speculation is: “Will England win the World Cup?”. The answer is: “No!”

He's the obvious choice although it wont make a lot of difference. I'm looking forward to the WC. Southgate is a bit of a wet blanket but is making the right noises, be nice if we could win a match after the group stage, assuming we get that far.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

However I will settle for this: 1. England manager grows a pair at a tournament and picks an attacking side and tells them to go for it. I have never understood why we go into our shell. If you are going to get sacked you might as well go out playing the way you wanted rather than the safety first attitude. Be dammed for what you do not what you didn't do. 2. The players suddenly realise that the big round thing at their feet is the same thing they play with week in and week out. Just play to your club form and we will be OK. 3. Against Tunisia and Panama rip into them in the first 5 mins and get them on the back foot. When we played Iceland it looked like we were playing Brazil, they grew in confidence. So the message here to the other strikers in the squad is - basically - that Kane gets an automatic place in the team so that’s one less place for you guys to fight over. It’s madness, although I accept it was ever thus; just not normally with a striker. In a tourney, the best team should be picked for the game in hand, and then the armband handed to the best candidate from the eleven. If Kane plays sh!te like he did in Euro 2016, will he keep his place in the team because he’s the captain? If not, then there’s the whole embarrassment of “England captain axed!” etc

Similarly, every team in the tournament will announce a captain prior to the start of the tournament. People really will look anywhere for a way to criticise the England set up.

A player could play sh!te and be replaced after an hour by someone who then scored a brace. Who gets picked for the next game? The former because he’s the captain or the latter because he’s on form. A striker is never a good choice as a captain, even when they are natural leaders. A captain should have an overview of the game, strikers by definition lack that. Originally posted by Pussay Patrol
