10 dead according to reports and an ex-student in custody. The weapon appears to be a shotgun this time so it'll be interesting to see what the response will be of those who have previously laid the blame for shootings on assault rifles, rather than any and all types of gun.

By early accounts, this kid went in with long coat, shotgun hidden underneath, and started blasting shotgun in one hand, handgun in the other. They were his fathers weapons. Texas has open carry laws and allows for freedom of arms, but also has pretty strong laws for those that dont take care of their own guns, i.e. if they get used by someone else in a crime, your in for a world of hurt. My eldest son is in Catholic high school. They have 8 foot tall metal fences, with spikes on top, that are locked up during school. They have an inner fence around most of the campus and only way in is through the main office. They have armed security on golf carts and 2 armed ladies on the front gate(and they are badass, dont underestimate those grannies). My other son is in a public school, you can get in and out of there as easy as you like, as many ways as you like. Its a mess, Florida Governor Scott talked alot after the Parkland shooting, about protecting schools, even coughed up 25 million for it. 25 million to protect 4,269 public schools !!! Sad that i have had discussions with my kids, discussing escape plans etc. i mean, wtf ?

America has more guns than people. Take 100 people....then imagine the 10 most fecked up of them having easy access to guns. It doesn't take a genius to realise that no matter what happens it's always just a matter of time until you get a rinse and repeat. I'm not a fool who thinks that America will change its gun laws. It isn't going to happen. America has the laws it chooses for itself and that's how it should be.

Unless they finally wake up and smell the coffee that certain laws just do not work especially when they equate with gun atrocities in other countries and how a change in legislation resulted in a cessation of such massacres e.g. Australia following Port Arthur attack. NRA is essentially sponsoring The Republicans with 99.9% chance that more school attacks will take place and many more young innocent lives will be tragically taken. What a sick Govt administration!

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Interesting point you make about private and public schools. Has there ever been one of these mass shootings in a private school?

Forget the NRA as neither side in America have any plans to get rid of guns altogether. I wonder whether both sides would do so more readily if there were no manufacturers that were American, which most of them are. Say all the guns and consumables were Russian or Chinese made, I reckon they'd be more inclined to legislate.

How are those "thoughts and prayers" from all and sundry in the US public eye working out? Like Stuk implied, gun sales dollars matter. Clearly a lot more than children's lives, in my view.

You're right as I'm sure every American family and certainly chat show host would testify. If you look carefully enough, the NRA-loving Trump can be seen with 'blood on his hands'....
