Steven Reid, another year with Roy in dugout with Sr learning from the wise old sage, he already seems well regarded.

It might be better for Reid to have a couple of years more under Roy and then a phased introduction in Roy's last year.

Taking the bungy jump since 1964. Never to see John Jackson in a shirt again

Sorry to see Lee Hills go, did we ever see Alex Marrow? We did January 2013

Surely the natural successor to Roy is Ray Lewington?

(hopefully after Roy stays on at least another couple of years)

Been our manager before back in 1998. Didn’t last long in a caretaking managerial partnership.

I'd rather us go for managers, not successful assistants - there is a reason RL is Roy's right hand man.

This was once a quality forum....

I reckon Steven Reid is a good shout. Maybe Steven and Ray co managers. We need a bit of managerial stability after some of the money grabbing and let's not forget the downright useless managers we've had in.

oh yeah ,fcuk off brighton.

I said in another thread that succession planing by putting someone alongside Roy to learn from him for the future would be good. However there are problems with doing this.

It is natural for any up and coming person in management to look at current management and no matter how successful the current managership is they want to do it there way. It's a natural ego thing, to show that you have made a difference.

The other issue is that a lot will depend on the manner in Roy's eventual departure. Roy has done a great job this year and I for one hope he stays for a good successful spell with us. But, we felt the same way about Pardew at first and over time it went sour. If Roy leaves on good terms i.e we have been under his tenure and say he chooses to retire successful then promoting someone within our ranks to continue his work makes sense. However, if he leaves due to bad results etc then a regime change is often needed with a change in direction.

If my Dad continued to work well into his seventies I'd be concerned. Let the old geezer go and look to the back-room boys to take the tiller. Lewington has always translated his graceful movement into his tactics. I wish FEB had stayed in the back ground. There is still Something about his ideas that should appeal to a club like Palace. Dougie aint no slouch either.

I’m trying to work out who FEB is. Can only be a typo of FDB but you can’t of course mean him surely!?

We may need to find a successor sooner than we think if some of the rumours I have been hearing over the past few days are true. Sounds like issues again with Parish and transfer funds. I pray this is just another rumour as I hate all the gossip.

No real source although I have heard from a few mates now and some have close connections to the club.

I'm praying this will not happen and we will sort things out. I know we will need to be clever with funds for the stadium, but we cannot go into another season with a change of manager. Only so many times we can get away with this.

Don't shoot me for this message please as I am only stating what I have been hearing....

Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Yes I am refering to the Dutch bloke who made such a poor fist of management. But there are still thing's he wanted to introduce to the Palace set-up I think are good for Palace. Hence the reason why SP hired him. Using youth team players as a matter of course with at least one on the bench every game. Then the almost prophetic 4/6 formation that worked so well eventually. I don't mean for him to take the reigns, but a healthy back-room mover.

His ego is too big for a back room role. I doubt he’d take that type of role on at Barca, let alone Palace.
