Was only a matter of time before it was brought in. Looking back at the good old days, footballers used to play on mudbaths which was obviously stamina sapping.Never had any complaints of fatigue or calls for a 'Winter Break'.And in those days there could be multiple replays in the FA Cup ! And no travelling on aircraft - they had to use coaches and 'British Rail' These days, clubs have sports therapists, conditioning coaches, nutritionists etc etc etc .Footballers play on pristine pitches and there is talk of footballers being tired and needing a rest !!!! Edited by Willo (18 Apr 2018 3.37pm) The game is so much faster now. Watch some old football on BTsport next time it comes on and you’ll see why they could manage more games. Actually having breaks might help it become more level with us versus the big teams if our better 15 or so players are more available than their 20 outfield players.

Yes it is faster but there has been an advancement in sports science, nutrition, rest and recuperation methodologies etc etc.

How many sports are their where pros go full pelt like they do for 9 months with 6 weeks training beforehand? Don’t say tennis because they’re sitting out tournaments when they can and there are gaps anyway.

I'm in favour but only if the confirm which weeks teams will have off at the start of the season and not wait until a couple of weeks beforehand for the TV companies to decide. Having 2 weekends in a row off in winter would be great as I can book a holiday without having to miss any games. Knowing the PL and TV they won't decide until January and then they will have the break the two weeks I'm not on holiday. Fans last seems to be their motto.

And if you are an international player you'll have a summer tour or a World Cup to play on top of that. Tennis players play far, far more minutes per season than footballers. To win one Grand slam you'd play about 14-20 hours on average, which equates to about 9-13 football matches. Baseball players have 162 games per regular season.

It'll be a fixed window and announced before the season starts. And the holiday prices will all then cost more over that fortnight. Edited by Stuk (18 Apr 2018 5.12pm)

The hectic Christmas schedule is, I believe, untouched by the proposed winter break. So why would a 2 week break in late Jan/early Feb be particularly beneficial? Doesn't seem long enough, players will need to retain high fitness, we already have 2 weeks between matches for international breaks.
