I believe the following are 'realistic' targets for us in the close season...we pay good money and i think would certainly improve the quality of the squad.

Goal Keeper - Fraser Forster (30) £13.5m
On his day is superb...on the fringes of England and an upgrade on Hennessey

Left Back - Luke Shaw (22) £13.5m
A youthful signing this one; again has undoubted quality but falls just short of what the big 6 are looking for (clearly) at the mo. He needs a run of games and would provide great competition for PVA / Schlupp but also allow the other two to play in a more advanced role on the wing. Shaw on the left and AWB on the right; that's two exciting young full backs right there!

Attacking Mid (Playmaker) - Inniesta (33) £18m
He's looking to move to China FFS; I think its feasible to at least make an approach for him. This is an area we really are lacking in and to get somene who has the ability to split defences with his passes is a must..whether inniesta or not.

Midfield/Wing - James Maddison (21) £20m
We're already being linked with him, one for the future and has a lot of technical ability; again something we lack in certain areas of the pitch. Also another potential youthful signing.

The fees above (Maddison apart) are from transfermarket; Maddisons is based on recent press speculation.

Not often I post a list of names; but having been thinking about it as i said above I think these are not only the types of players that would progress us as a club but also the level of player we should be aspiring to attain.

Does anyone think these are possibles?

Sorry I don't think any are really possible, even Shaw who I'm not convinced we really need. I agree we need an attacking midfielder and cm, Maddison would be great to get, but big clubs are likely to get him.

Iniesta I'm not sure about, his legs are going a bit now. I think he'll go to China or America before he comes here.

Fair enough...and i realise these are a 'higher calibre' of target then we usually go for...but then I guess that was my point...if we want to progress we really need to be looking at these sorts of players to do so.

Why?

Forster replaced by McCarthy, Hennessey is way better.
Shaw, we have 3 left backs and he is over weight.
Inesta going to China for big money.
Morrison maybe.

I doubt we will be going for anyone currently in the Premier.

We have two mediocre left backs and one in Suoare who i cant see getting back into the 1st eleven. Shaw maybe a little overweight...but he needs a run of games and he'll soon shape up.

Iniesta..perhaps...but then i'd like to see if he'd be tempted by an approach

I'd certainly like Butland...but I think too many competitors would go for him; and miss Forster who whilst not quite upto Bucklands standards isnt far off. BOTH better than Hennessey by some distance IMHO

JWP...never really grabbed my attention. Industrious, water carrier is probably the best description I can give of him...certainly not a playmaker which is what we're desperate for.

Austin; yep...all day long

Grigg...nope

At the end of the day we could well be playing in the 'Championship' next season so our targets will have to reflect that we are no longer in the PL.

Willo, if you are that down and pessimistic that we are going to get relegated, go and have yourself £20 at 25/1 with bet365 that we will go down. In that way you make yourself some money.

The bookies will not be wrong on this. I don’t understand your logic in thinking we are going down all the time. It’s very frustrating

I think we would have a good chance with Butland. If you look at our 'competitors', I would suggest that nearly all of them would be happy with what they've got apart from perhaps Watford and Bournemouth. Looking at the current table, he wouldn't displace any of the top 9 sides 'keepers.

Dubravka is the keeper we need, not Forster or Buckland, neither are better than Hennessey.
