Ok. This could be inflammatory I see no issue with BBC Radio 4 broadcasting a rerun of Powell’s speech interspersed with comment and critique. There does seem to be a fair bit of pushback to this being broadcast - I say as long as it’s in the context of critical evaluation and not just shameless promotion then why not? Why hide history just because it doesn’t fit with the current accepted point of view? Go
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

Why hide history just because it doesn’t fit with the current accepted point of view? Go 'Accepted point of view'? Bah. I hear a lot of slurs but I'm yet to be told what Powell said which was wrong and instead he has painfully been proven right. Much of it has been twisted and used for ideological purposes.

I would be interested to hear it as I am told that at the time the papers mis-reported a lot of what he said. I don't know as I haven't heard it but I believe it was just a warning about mass immigration. A black friend of mine researched the speech and read his autobiography, his conclusion was Powell was not a racist although he didn't agree with his views. I heard Lord Adonis last night say the BBC should not broadcast it and if Powell gave that speech today he would be arrested for a hate crime. I found this more worrying than what Powell did or didn't say. A mainstream politician trying to censor a legitimate public debate. As long as Powell didn't advocate or encourage violence warning of the potential for trouble should not be censored.

You can watch him giving the speech on youtube, or read it just type into google, anytime. The BBC licence should be taken away for inciting racial hatred just as he did. There have been no 'rivers of blood' in the 50 years since his speech. As for a black minority holding the whip hand in 15 years well that's really how ridiculous he was. 'All white people are racist' is quite a recent phrase.

As we all know on here you are fond of hyperbolic language, which is typical of the far left. Usual BS and smearing because all their actual arguments fail. How? Please show your workings. The Equality Act 2010 In 2010, the UK’s diverse anti-discrimination laws were brought together in one Act. This act is positive in many ways but not all. One of its negative aspects is that it permits 'positive' discrimination, also known as affirmative action. In other words making decisions relating to employment, we can define affirmative action as policies that take factors, such as race, gender, age and sexual orientation into consideration in order to benefit an under-represented group...in other words create a 'protected class' of people based on a group identity and victim status. This means that employers are permitted to take a protected characteristic like age or race into account when deciding who to recruit or promote, providing all else, such as the candidates’ experience and suitability for the job is close to equal. Hence pandering. Affirmative action is racism and anti meritocracy all coated in nice middle class language for social justice activists to nod at. It's the form of racism they approve of.
