The last youth player to break into the first team?

Given that the U23’s are champions ... will any be breaking into the squad? I recall the likes of Morrison and Zaha coming through but who was the last one (AWB aside)

They say hard work never hurt anyone ... but why take a chance?

Any one from J. Williams or Clyne, I’d say. Maybe even as far back as Ashley Paul Robinson against Watford, I think it was?

I think he then refused a contract at Palace in the hope he was signing for Fulham until they pulled, we pulled and he ended up at Bromley!

Silly boy... still, was always a good player at school...

Levi lumeka came off the bench in our league game against De Boer so he would be the one before awb.

Looking back before that would be you zaha. Parsons and Williams etc.

Cadogan and djilali before that

You answered your own question, AWB. He was the last one to break into the first team.
You will have to ask a different question.

I guess it depends on what is meant by 'breakthrough'

If you mean breakthrough as in beyond a Chameo appearance, I’ll give you a broad hint.. it was before Parish’s time

A crying shame really when you think about it. Been in the premier league for 5/6 years yet our days of breeding academy players were more renowned in championship mediocrity & administration.

Some would argue of course this is because you can get away with the risk a bit more and also we had little choice sometimes, but I struggle to believe we couldn’t of utilised the academy to fill squad places more effectively than we have. Given the resources we now have at our disposal to enhance youth development, when our academy had a pretty decent track record even prior to the days we had money.

South London will always be a breeding ground for talented young footballers and we have to capitalise on that more effectively sooner or later, else the scum and clowns either end of the road will.

Wasn't there one a few seasons back? Played one or two games. Hull away maybe.

If we're talking about players who were good for us and have moved up in their careers since, I suppose it'll be Clyne. Could be out of favour at liverpool soon too, worth a cheeky bid to bring back?

Phillips was on the bench against Hull, could you mean him?
