It seems our gripes over the quality of refereeing in the Prem has been noted by FIFA

Clattenburg was chosen as our representative before he opted for a post in Saudia Arabia.

There will be referees at the World Cup who are inferior to those who officiate in the PL.

Just like the 'World Cup' doesn't contain the top 32 teams, the 'World Cup' is not refereed by the top 36 officials in the world.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Rhetorical grandstanding and a work of fiction to rival 'Harry Potter'.

Clattenburg WAS chosen before he went to Saudia Arabia.

On a broader point, FIFA have selected officials based on political and geographical considerations. They have selected officials from all 6 confederations.

We have a poor crop of referees right now, to the point that the few can be relied on to be consistent is dwindling to maybe two.

I believe that FIFA chooses a pool of referees about 2 years before the world cup and then tracks their performance until they make their final decision. Clattenburg was our candidate so as soon as he left for Saudi he dropped as in it as their is no replacement process. This story came out today but Talksport reported this months ago it is not new news just the way the process works.

Political considerations?

Will be interesting to see goals awarded/disallowed in accordance with the current political correctness.

Can't wait..............

He WAS not ‘chosen’. He was on a list from which the final choice would be made.

I give it just a few short years the way Football is currently going when you will have national leagues plying for referees like they do players.

Mark Clattenburg was the only British referee on FIFA’s list of officials, but forfeited his place when he became Saudi Arabia’s head of referees.
He was chosen to be on the list.

At the end of the day there will be referees at the World Cup who are not of the standard of the likes of Clattenburg,Atkinson,Oliver etc etc
