Two sides to every coin and all that. The housing market is a big fail. Land-banking has been going on for decades. And it will continue. This Neurosurgeon absolutely saved my life in 1990, and yet he left the NHS because it is failing. When politics absolutely fcks up human-kinds chance to progress, I really do despair.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

I watch Prime Ministers Question Time every Wednesday and when Mr Corbyn sounds off about the NHS his words have the ring of truth about them then Mrs May responds and her words also sound truthful. I remember seeing a news item a few months ago from a number of past Health Secretaries of both hues and the one thing that they agreed on was that every single suggestion made by any Health Secretary had been rejected by the GMC or other interested bodies

I recently saw an article containing quotes from opposition politicians along the lines of the NHS is 24 hours from collapsing. These quotes were from different politicians and parties going back over 30/40 years. Some were from the same politician and looked stupid when shown together as it appeared he was predicting the demise of the NHS every week for the past few decades. Good point about the GMC it has wonderful PR. This body has fought tooth and nail against change since the start of the NHS which it opposed. somehow it has positioned itself as the guardian of the NHS in the eyes of the public rather than as a trade union protecting doctors interests.

Sums up politicians for me. Aggressive but unarguably amusing. Loosely spinning off from the NHS point – the touted 'NHS tax' is surely the only way to go if we want to keep the staff paid fairly and our service intact?
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

Been thinking the same thing. I can't back this with up with figures but I expect someone will correct me. I would like to know the percentage of the population that does not pay tax / NI. I suspect that with a growing pensioner base and increased tax thresholds this will be rising. In other words fewer people are funding the NHS (including me). Just because you paid tax for many years that shouldn't mean that you pay nothing for healthcare especially as you get older you will likely need it more. Perhaps all adults should pay something maybe £500 pa if you all ready pay taxes then you've paid. Of course there would be exceptions and I have no idea how much this would raise. The NHS should be free at point of use but I do think people should pay something annually. I haven't paid tax legally in 5 years not all pensioners are poor. No doubt people will be outraged but either we increase the number of people paying or we raise the tax on the rest. During my working life I paid 40% most of the time now I pay nothing I would be happy to pay a flat fee if others did.
