He always seems to be everywhere when times are good. After four months and at least two appearances on both Pods, where he painted himself as being like Joan of Arc, persecuted on Twitter and the like, and reitterated the amazing work being done by Dougie behind the scenes, and how they had mistakes and were going to get them right etc, we were left with another shambles of window. He's gambled again on squad fitness, and almost immediately we've been punished, now having one fit keeper, and one first team winger fit and available for selection. We were told that Roy had 40m to spend in January. We've since got some swede in on a 3 month loan (prob no more than 750k fee), a Polish defender for around 1.5m up front and striker from the Danish league for 8m up front. A quarter of what was talked about, and glaring holes left in the squad as a a result. I've noted he's kept an uncharacteristaclly low profile on Twitter. Is he going to show up for another soft soaping interview on a podcast at any point? Bit out of order to not explain himself, given how happy he is to take credit and show up when the good times are rolling.

Not a great window but January rarely is for any club. It wasn't a shambles either. We were unable to get Guaita who appears to have been our main target but have now got him for the summer. The squad needs major rebuilding, paying over the odds in January would leave comparatively little for the summer. Cabaye is 32 and legs are going Transfer windows need to be more strategic and less reactive. Fans need to try and ignore the hype, not easy I know but there is a big job in rebuilding our squad and unfortunately it will likely take Roy a few windows

Told by who ? Well the figure was reported all over the media, the excellent HLTCO blog talked about it, it was referred to many times on the pods. No one from the club ever refuted it, and when they discussed the upcoming window they very much gave the impression that substantial spending would occur on the key weaknesses (striker, keeper, cover on the wings etc). HLTCO I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that this story flies in the face of almost everything we were told about the state of the club’s finances over the summer, raising huge questions as to whether the board were simply uncomfortable with the prospect of handing over such a sizeable amount of cash to a man in Frank de Boer, who few appeared to have much faith in. After the arrival of Jairo Riedewald from Ajax, Palace only made one further permanent signing during the summer transfer window in the shape of Mamadou Sakho, a player who was well known to the club long before De Boer even considered taking up residence in the Selhurst Park dugout. With the club keen to amplify the message that they were tightening their belts after a prolonged spell of heavy spending, I’m sure you join me in raising your eyebrow at the thought of an extra £40 million being thrown into the transfer kitty out of nowhere. Supposedly, Palace have also told Roy to look into the possibility of finding suitors for many of the squad’s fringe players, whose high wage packets have previously stopped other clubs from taking them off our hands. Should he be able to, the suggestion is that the funds will be thrown in alongside the £40 million for him to reinvest as he sees fit. It all seems a tad fanciful to me but if the money was indeed there all along, only being held back from Frank because of a lack of trust from above, I can’t help but wonder why we ever gave him the job in the first place. Almost everything that has taken place at Palace in the last three months is mind boggling. Let’s hope we’re set to go back to something approaching normality from now on.

When will people stop banging on about the transfer window? It's been and gone and I can't imagine that anyone who has an opinion on it hasn't already given it. We will never know if any other additional players could have made a difference or if they would have either not been a good fit or got injured. If Parish was asked about the window, I think most of us could predict exactly what he would say anyway.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Clubs are aware that in many cases figures are plucked out of thin air and they don't pass comment as to their validity or refute the numbers.Clubs just don't into that game making statements about an array of amounts in the media.

Why would Parish say we had £40m to spend surely that will just drive up other clubs valuations of their players! As good as HLTCO is he is just a fan with as many contacts as you and I have!

Because our injury crisis is in part due to our continual failure to get in adequate cover in the windows! One fit sriker in benteke, no problem lets just take a punt that he stays fit and the sun comes up.. .Doh!!! Two wingers at the club and zero cover, no problem they're fit lads.... doh!!!! Only two (championship level) keepers, no problem they're good enough to keep us up, doh!!! We are one injury from WH away from having to throw in a youth team keeper into a relegation scrap! All this is due to the risible transfer policy of the club.

Google 'palace 40m war chest' and see how many sites reported it. At no point in any subsequent discussions on the window did Parish downplay it, instead he said 'how hard dougie and the club are working at ensuring we address the weakness in the squad'
