We once looked a very dangerous team from set pieces, it was our bread and butter a few years back. Not so much so now.
I am fed up with all these balls floated into the box - it is obviously not working and I am surprised we haven't looked into this. I want to see a ball whipped in with a bit of pace and curl. Look at Newcastle's goal yesterday; it wasn't the best ball in but the pace and whip caused us all sorts of panic.
I'm sorry but Cabaye's set pieces just do not do it for me. They are far to safe and easy to defend.
How about PVA on corners? How about we practise the whipped in corner in training? Something needs to change in this department as our stats this season from corners and set-pieces is poor.
Rant over.

Can't disagree, whenever we get a set piece, be it a corner or free kick, I am not optimistic about our chances of scoring. Milivojevic or perhaps Townsend should be taking set pieces rather than Cabaye who always seems to hit the first defender, float crosses or blaze free kicks over the bar.

i'm quite keen on it getting further than the first man, otherwise known as getting someone other than cabaye to take it.....

Yeahbaby. Villa Park.

I don't see how any team can stop it, if well executed, either. Whip it in at pace, flick it on, head it in. Bet Sakho could be a good flicker on-er but who's going to be the whipper in-er?

I guess there was more skill to those goals than we realized.

We base our corners largely down to expecting Dann to win a header (usually fairly successful)
When he's not in the team we do seem a little clueless with our approach. Beating the first man would help though!

Also easy for the keeper to judge the flight and catch it.

Good point regarding the flight and keeper catching. We used to rely so heavily on our set-pieces and scoring from open play was an issue.
We now seem to score 99% of our goals from open play and get a LOT of corners!
I believe we have only scored once or twice from a set-piece this season.
Now imagine if we had converted just 4 or 5 corners...

C'mon Roy, change it up!

Roys history with corers isnt that great if you cast your minds back....a certain Mr Kane taking them for England??? either that or maybe we are missing something. He cant score for toffee so why not get Tekkers to take the corners? if he toe punts it from the corner, anyone directly in the way will get injured and we can tap in the ricochet??

Looking at the stats on Whoscored, we have the fourth lowest number of goals scored from set pieces - 5, which was higher than I thought anyway.
