Two modern day recruitment adverts, one for the British Army and one for the Chinese Army.......which one is going to attract the kind of people who are going to win battles? What on earth is going on today. Pray to our non existent god that we don't have to win battles using anyone attracted to the Army by adverts like this. The Russians and Chinese are no doubt laughing at us.

The Chinese one made me cringe. Like it's aimed at 12-year old boys. Looks like fun though but about as realistic as an episode of Eastenders

Producing a battlegroup that wins battles.....which is about killing people....has nothing to do with WW1 or WW2. This is about what the so called 'leaders' in charge of producing messages to our youth are doing....the messages they are putting out to the very important youth willing to join the military. Those generations of the past were capable of winning battles and wars however that's about the height of what WW1 and WW2 have to do with my post. We have upstanding youth today...but these are the messages they are getting from our military....I compared it to countries that aren't affected with this ridiculous cultural weakness. The Chinese video makes you cringe because....based on your posts you are a beta male who would be about as useful as a pint of yoghurt in an actual war.

I doubt the majors have changed. Probably more the emotional intelligence or acceptance of people in the group are different to alpha male only Tom Beringer or Matt Damon types in Platoon. (Just an extreme. British soldiers are no doubt highly disciplined, professional and responsible soldiers as you see on tv) You always hear how civilians are surprised what they can do in war when they have to. There isn't much Russian wrestling in modern warfare now. Maybe they could've included a few unemployed northerners going into the army but I doubt that advert would stop them joining. They're just widening the target audience. Edited by Rudi Hedman (01 Feb 2018 1.11pm)

They're just widening the target audience. So you think the military needs to attract those who think of crying onto training for front line battle groups? That's called a civvie army forced to fight....it isn't sensible advertising for the professional army. The military is in principle mainly about killing people for the protection of the nation state. Here's advice for anyone with an atom of sense.....if you are thinking about joining the military but are weak emotionally......don't join. You are going to waste your time and money and the state's. There....I could have saved the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of pounds.

I don't like the title but the army is a bit like a family isn't it? Especially for young men who have left home and may not have had much experience of life.

Still, their video is designed to attract patriotic young males with high testosterone....who are most likely to be working class.....hence giving them a purpose and in many cases a trade. That's what the military should be doing. Those are the type you want out of the pubs and into purposeful careers that serve a purpose. Our army has become snobs that are more concerned with pleasing their feminist politicians than producing fighting forces that can win battles......We only have enough men for one major land battle anyway.
