The British Army is launching an advertising campaign, offering "emotional and physical" support to new recruits. Oh my god.....the nation that helped win both world wars and stood surviving as the major nation until 43 in the second one. That nation that fought off the Nazi.....now seemingly has a bunch of millennial pansies to have to beg into the army......don't worry snowflake, we will whisper warm words at you when it gets tough. I'm sure this generation has its share of real men but the reputation of it is one that has been completely and utterly cucked. Whatever next and what an embarrassing mess. Do you not think that those who put their lives on the line for their country deserve all the support they can get? Considering the suicide rate amongst front line soldiers and the shocking lack of support our veterans receive.

This isn't support for conscript soldiers coming off a battlefield mate. That would have some sense to it. Indeed even mentioning suicide in relation to this is nonsense. Also the higher suicide rate amongst males is a factor of being male. This is common statistical knowledge.....Are you seriously suggesting that males don't get 'support' when they are known suicide risks? Many males reject the notion of emotional 'support' anyway.....and those that think they need it before they enter into the Army should seriously consider the life choice they are making.....They should perhaps go down to the beach and make sand castles with their beta male mates. It isn't just the army but also the police and fire service that has an unusually high rate of mental health issues amongst it's work force. I was listening to a radio 5 phone in a couple of weeks on this subject and there is a very high rate of mental health issues amongst all of the services prompted by them seeing things that no person should normally have to see and most were complaining that there wasn't sufficient support at work

Higher suicide rate compared to females is a natural condition of being male. It's not a nice fact but it's something nature designs in. Any higher pressured job is also going to take its toll in increasing propensity for suicides. Another not so nice fact about life.. What is far better to say is....is if you can't take the heat of a particular job, stay out of the kitchen. Some jobs are going to scar and that's it.

The whole suicide point isn't related to the original post anyway.

Well it intrinsically is. Being a soldier must be one of the most mentally scarring professions out there. PTSD is extremely common. Moves like this can only be applauded.

I don't think that people realise quite what is involved with some jobs. People join the police to catch criminals without realising that they will also have to attend road traffic accidents and I doubt whether many fire officers would envisage having to see countless charred bodies of children in places like Grenfell Tower

Edited by Stirlingsays (10 Jan 2018 2.56am) As usual you set out to outrage. I don’t suppose you know much about PTSD or Shell Shock. Try asking someone that fought in a war and keep your unpleasant macho views to yourself. Attacking the Army is not going to make you friends here. It is far from a bunch of pansies. And by the way my grandfather fought on Vimy Ridge and my father Monte Casino.

I come from a family where all the males around me had been in the forces. You didn't read my post properly. It's attacking this 'me' generation not what the Army was....how on earth did you manage to misconstrue that?
