Whilst watching a stream for the game against Southampton I was left wondering (whilst it buffered) isn’t it about time the FA/Premier League considered allowing ‘legal’ streams for ALL games? The age old argument of not showing games at 3pm as it’ll diminish the crowds is now defunct and out dated in todays modern world. Tens of thousands of us regularly use streams to watch games, and has it affected attendances? Like hell it has. So surely it’ll be a money spinner for them and the clubs? It’s a bit of a no brainer. Gain control of the streams, driving the shysters and money grabbing 3rd parties out of the equation, allowing the clubs to gain extra revenue from their own fans in the process. As fans we then have the security of knowing we can watch our teams games as and when they’re being played without any fuss. To start the ball rolling I’d like to see ‘away game’ season tickets introduced for clubs to sell to fans at say (£3 a game) that we can watch. Not all of us can get to away games…but I bet there are thousands who jump on a stream instead. And for those then thinking..”hang on if fans start to avoid away games…that WILL affect attendances” again I say it won’t. All clubs will do is sell those seats to home fans…offering more Season Tickets as a result and gaining more revenue in the process…they could even use the extra revenue to subsidise tickets (ok ok maybe that’s pushing things a little too far) So when the next set of rights come up for bidding, I’d like to see a ‘streaming package’ that offers someone the ability to host these streams..perhaps even managing the Away Season ticket for the clubs. As for after that I can see subscription packages being re-structured as a whole, with different packages being offered from a complete sweep of all games for all clubs in all competitions down to Club level where providers offer us ‘digital season ticket’ specifically for our clubs games and no one else’s; but I can’t see this happening for a decade or so yet. Does anyone else have any thoughts on how this could and should be developed moving forward?

When I lived in the USA way back there was a successful NFL team in Los Angeles and all their matches were shown on TV but NOT within a certain radius (I forget how many miles) of the Stadium. Tickets were hard to get so a group of work colleagues Now it may not be possible to do similar here for streams but with modern technology I don't see why not actually. If streams were legal and say £5 a match I would be happy to pay as he nearest PL ground to me is Swansea so even if I was a Swansea fan I still would not be able to go to see them as it would cost about a £100+ to do so.

I'm sure it would be...simply through the ISP

The easiest way forward is to first make watching a Saturday afternoon game legal. Simply by removing that antiquated 3pm Saturday rule, the FA stops turning a lot of fans into 'criminals' (how bloody ridiculous that must seem to fans abroad) and can then let the market sort itself out. There will be TV packages, On-line packages and whatever else technology and business can offer in future.
Winning isn't everything. Without the defeats we would not value the victories. Still, it's a shame we can't play Chelsea every week. |

To be honest - not all but a good amount of PL games are played on US television, and you can find streams for these online. Not always the best but there are some good HD streams out there. I can't see the PL allowing 3pm kick off games to be shown on UK TV anytime soon though.

As I understand it, the logic behind the 3pm rule back in the 60s was that clubs would gain revenue if fans were forced to attend games in person in order to watch them. This makes no sense now that I, and I think most of us, would happily pay for reliable, legal streaming. You could have options to pay per match, get a season pass, maybe an away season pass for fans with home season tickets.

Tv companies wouldn't allow it. You'd potentially be taking money away from them. If you could watch all the non tv games on a legal stream, would you bother taking a tv package to watch the ones that are on tv?

Thats clearly not the case...I can already stream Sky and BT games...what's the difference? The only difference would be that 3pm games can ONLY be offered on a stream...surely?

Tbh the way I see things going is all games being played at separate times from Friday night through to Monday night, allowing them to maximise each games global viewing figures, sky and bt will buy the whole package together stopping the premier league pushing them into a bidding war and there won't really be a need to stream games apart from through say the sky app which is already available to existing customers.

So if you can already stream sky bt and just about every other premiership game, why would you pay, even a minimal amount for a legitimate stream?
