say they have let down future generations.
Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping. Hubert Reeves |

They are right. I am ashamed of what mine and my forefathers' generation has done to Mother Earth. We are going to leave it in a right mess.

We can add to it, or not, but we cannot stop it. There have been more hot periods than ice ages (which we are currently still in). We may be able to slow it's warming progress, but it will change whatever.

And we can reverse it - and quite quickly - using existing knowledge and technology. It takes only the will to do so. It also takes people like you to stop spreading malicious bulls*** like the above.

Correct that climate change does happen naturally, but just to note that climate responds to external forcings. These forcings can be natural, (eg volcanic eruptions, solar cycles or changes in the earth's orbit over tens of thousands of years (the so called Milankovitch cycles) or human (eg greenhouse gases). At present the most critical forcing is the greenhouse induced warming. We can link the observed warming to greenhouse gases in a climate model by running the model once with fixed CO2 at pre-industrial levels, and once with CO2 tracking observed estimates. We get a match with the observed warming when the CO2 is included, but not without. If we reduce the stock of carbon in the atmosphere, then temperatures will fall. However this is complicated by lags in the system (eg oceans releasing heat slowly) and whatever the magnitude of carbon sinks are in the future. The underlying climate (without human induced warming) will change naturally (by very small amounts, mind), but we can limit the magnitude of the actual warming through international collaboration to make sure that sinks are greater than sources and the stock of carbon in the atmosphere goes down. Do you know how annoyed I was the other day when Trump tweeted that we need more global warming because it's cold where he was? For christ's sake the guy doesn't know the difference between weather and climate yet he pulled the US out of Paris. as someone who actually supports many conservative economic policies, his lack of knowledge and inability to consider scientific evidence as a US president is truely horrendous in my opinion.
