Note that "most expensive" does not mean "best". Tomkins and Sakho (when fit) are both better IMHO. WTF anyone is doing paying £75m for van Dijk baffles me. Edited by chateauferret (28 Dec 2017 2.55pm)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Warnock wanted van Dijk for £6m but TimCoe said no' by Midlands Eagle Just watching Sky Sports News and Neil Warnock said he wanted to sign Virgil van Dijk 3yrs ago for £6m but chief scout Tim Coe said that in his opinion he was too slow. I am absolutely flabbergasted that a young whipper-snapper like Coe (who never played professionally due to injury) would be allowed to overrule and experienced knowledgeable old pro like Warnock. Of course, most clubs have stories about letting good players slip through their grasp (mainly when the players are younger) but this one seems to underline a major weakness in our scouting system.
One of the biggest mysteries in life is that loud stupid people normally don't have even the slightest inclination that they are stupid. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Warnock wanted van Dijk for £6m but TimCoe said no' by Midlands Eagle It doesn't really say it all though does it, it doesn't say that we have a very young chief scout who is relatively inexperienced (certainly from a playing perspective) and that he was allowed to overrule a wise old head like Warnock and this instance it has cost the club many millions.

I don't think so, we saved the 6 million. The rest is what if's...
