How good can this team be?

I think the performance and the result at Leicester confirmed what many of us believed. That we were never as bad as the situation we found ourselves in after 7 games (mainly caused by the chaos that De Boer left Roy to sort out) and we began to slowly improve and we outplayed both West Ham and Everton, but did not get the points we deserved. Pundits like Danny Murphy and Phil Neville have been saying for quite some time that we should never have found ourselves at the bottom, too much talent etc. I do actually believe that many of us still don't actually realise how good this team is, and someone was going to cop it soon (unfortunately for Leicester it ended up being them!) maybe if we can strengthen further in January then these sort of results will become the norm, and we can achieve our rightful position in the top half of the table. To be unbeaten in the last 7 games is no fluke, especially when you are in the Premier League. That takes some doing

We have got a terrific manager and a bunch of some very good players but are still way short squad ability wise. Lose Zaha and one of our decent midfielders and we are stuffed.

There is a reason why we always fight relegation every season and that is it. But, i reckon Roy will sort it and next season expect us to a Fulham and finish 6th or 7th if none of the best players leave and we get four good ones in to replace the crap.

we are pretty good ,top ten at least until we loose one or two then we are 15th-17th ,throw in a s***e manager and you are looking at the trap door .

Well the managers sorted and as the frog says should strengthen in the next couple of windows which hopefully will see us at the right end of the table by this time next year .

But of course this is Palace , Roy will run off with the yanks wife at the Christmas party never to be seen again and we will install the retiring Kaka as manager because Parish wants us to play like Brazil .

This team could be fantastic but as always, we’re only one Sale/bad injury/management change away from being in a dangerous place. Big things need to be put in place to ensure that this isn’t the case any longer. Mainly on the infrastructure, scouting and academy side of things. None of us have seen a talent like Wilf emerge from the academy in our lifetimes. And the lack of news from the academy about up and coming youngsters makes it sound like we may not see another Wilf come along again or certainly anytime soon.
As someone on this post above says, we need to see a couple of strong transfer windows to improve the depth of the squad so that we are no longer relying on riding our luck where injuries are concerned. Then with some stability in the dugout we may have a completely different start to the second half of the season and carry it through into next season.

I make you right, which is a change.
The way a lot of posters want to sell our best players, we are never going to be a good team, just struggle. Talk of selling Benteke and getting some cheap foreigners with no premier experience, just shows the ambition of some people.

As do I.

The past seven games have been fantastic. I am a fairly optimistic Palace fan and struggle with the doomsday scenarios that are often pitched on this site.
I have been telling my son we will be okay for months, although this run and last week in particular has exceeded my expectations.
I think we stay up and if we can get it right from the start of the season and get decisions and have luck then this team should be finishing between 10th to 8th.

10th is but 5 points away.

I think all of our first team undoubtedly have the quality to play in a top-half side, maybe except the goalkeepers and full-backs. If Roy was in charge for an injury-free season we could certainly hit 7th-9th.

But as others have said, our squad depth is very troubling - decent numbers in defence, but a real lack of quality back-up in midfield and up front. I hope the board aren't getting too optimistic after our recent results, and recognise that we still need a couple of offensive players in January.

At the start of the season I expected a top 10 finish with the aim of 7th. I still expect a top 10 finish and I’m confident we’ll get there.

In terms of starting 11, I think only the top 6 and Everton have a stronger line up. That said, we are very thin on depth and at the moment are probably two injuries away from disaster. 2 strikers, 1 winger and a GK and we’re pretty much the finished article.

If we can keep Wilf for next season, I think we should aim for a top 10 finish and go for both cups.

They should go in for Rooney then. There aren't many more offensive players than him.

I think people are forgetting the roller-coaster factor. Th same people who have contributed to this very thread will be saying the exact opposite after two or three reverses.
This is Palace we are talking about. But I will say FeB did rave about the youth coming through. Who knows this is not the time, but if/when Palace are safe we will see these boys and, hopefully, gasp in amazement.
