It sounded pretty unequivocal on 5Live, but I thought I would wait until seeing the evidence on MOTD before posting. Evidence if ever it was needed that different rules apply to certain 'top teams'. Could someone please explain why Kane and the perennial thug Ali didn't both get straight red cards for their appalling fouls against Man City?

Ali’s tackle was a disgrace, never liked him since he took a cheap shot on Yohan. Can’t get excited by England with him in the team, hugely overrated and a dirty player.
Kane’s tackle was just a poor strikers challenge in my opinion, he doesn’t strike me as dirty but thick as s***. He should win sports personality of the year as most vegetables have more personality as him.

I thought both of those were red cards.

Absolutely. The slow motion replay for the Kane challenge does him no favours. Leads with his studs and is off the ground. Calling it a forward's challenge is just making excuses-he deserved a straight red.

Alli gets through about 5 of them a season. How he hasn't got a reputation for that from referee's yet is beyond me.

The rule absolutely has to be changed that yellow cards can't be reviewed too. The officials clearly didn't see it properly, or it would have been red. In the same way that the diving system works, if three people independently say that it is a 100% red card, there should be a retrospective ban.

Ridiculous that the best player in the league could have had his season ended and all Alli gets is a booking.

Studs up, two red cards no doubt. When someone goes in with studs showing he has to come away with the ball cleanly, not touching playing at all. Whether he can be booked for dangerous play even though he doesn't touch the player I don't know.

Graham Poll talks about these two incidents and says the Ali is a certain sending off but can understand why the ref gave only a yellow for Kane using the words 'there is no intensity in the challenge' for me this is rubbish as a studs up tackle is deemed as dangerous play, this is a perfect example of why there is inconstancy between refs.

He starts talking at 12.12 [Link]

I don't think the ref had a clear view of Kane's. There is no logical reason for Alli not getting a straight red except that he plays for Spurs and England and is a media darling. Both of these were worse than Deeney,s. Oh wait, he plays for Watford

I'm more annoyed with Poll's comments in relation to Kane not getting a red card who keeps talking about 'the intensity of the challenge'. He sees that Kane clearly goes in the tackle showing his studs which is dangerous play.

It seems to me that Kane gets away with it because he is seen as a 'nice chap', which to be fair I think he does seem to be. His was an aberration.
Deli on the other hand is not a particularly nice chap and thus doesn't deserve any benefit of doubt. I have no explanation for the ref's actions.
On the matter of intensity I would imagine that I was not the only one that saw Wilf lose it yesterday after being denied a foul and going after a Leicester player with intent. Luckily I think the ref did not see it having turned toward the play elsewhere.

Absolute bullsh*t from Poll, which ties in with what I said on my OP about different standards.
