Ok, so firstly I'm not in any way offended by this. Of course a Welshman is going to be more passionate about managing his country. And, of course, they hate us. BUT when I put it in a different context e.g. English FA says they don't want a French manager because they lack passion, I can see how it's offensive. Is that me being offended on behalf of someone else, which is a huge problem, when it doesn't offend me? I guess it depends on what we are stereotyping/generalising. Damn, it's a minefield.

Not really - the only country teams who should have a foreign coach are the ones who have no choice - say through a lack of domestic coaching infrastructure - everyone else should only ever appoint a national. Rugby and cricket too.

It doesn't bother me and it doesn't surprise me that they would only specifically rule out an English manager. They only have a chip on their shoulders about us, the same as the Scots.

I'm a best man for the job person.

The chief executive of the FAW Jonathan Ford is actually English & from Hereford.
An extremely clumsy comment but blown out of proportion by FAW Council members with an agenda.
Personally I want to see the best manager appointed I don't care where he was born.

A few years ago I worked in a factory just outside Cardiff and the two things that the work force all had in common was a hatred of the English and support for Liverpool Football Club.

I don't suppose that the hypocrisy ever crossed their minds

Well I work just outside Cardiff now and no one seems to hate me and they all support Cardiff Blues!

Here we go again with the “R” word being carelessly tossed around, both incorrectly and over emotively.

So the Welsh and the English are different races now? Who knew?

They have had English managers in the past and have had plenty of English players playing for them. I suspect that it was a joke which people are pretending to be upset about (not unlike Andy Murray saying anyone but England)

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Im a proper PC leftie, and evwn I cant see what the fuss is about...

Hes basicly said, we wont sign anyone from a rival nation. If he meant it jokingly then its no issue whatsoever, if he meant it then its a perfectly fine point of view that doesnt hurt anybody(Unless there is a brilliant unemployed English manager available and even then will only hurt Wales)

I dont get it, was he wearing an SS uniform or burning an English flag or something?

No problem with him preferring a Welsh manager.....hell I even agree with him. Welsh should come first in preference.

Not good to exclude the English from consideration over other foreign nations......stupid comment.

Should be told so but that's about it.....throwing terms around like 'racist' is over the top.

To be fair the Welsh aren't normally anywhere near as anti-English as the Scots are, and even some of them can be rational on occasion too.

It seems that the more they prefer rugby the less animosity there is.
