Clearly a very talented player and we are lucky to have him, however are going to see him fulfil this talent at Palace this season? He is clearly more suited to a central role. Although doing a job, he is not a wide midfielder. With Cabaye out yesterday I would of hoped to see Ruben paired in the middle with Luka and maybe Macarthur out wide. I just feel we are wasting his obvious qualities. He best bits yesterday were when he was driving through the middle. He gets caught too often for my liking trying to beat his man out wide. I know you could argue Roys recent tactic change has culminated in points but surely we'll pose more of a goal threat with Ruben through the middle and Wilf out wide.

Yes, although we dont need Mc or RLC or Cabaye or Luka (whichever 3 play) out wide as we have two wide men already. I would like to see RLC playing almost as a number 10. Wilf, Andros and RLC should provide more than adequate support in attack for Benteke with the occasional foray forward by Cabaye/Mc.

You are right though, as dull going forward as it has been away from home the last few games, you cannot knock the clean sheets and what could prove to be invaluable points come the end of the season.

Wilf through the middle is the most baffling for me. If WIlf had just hugged the touch line yesterday you would bet your house he would got something. Put Wilf in space out wide, I dont think theres a better player in the league, ok you could argue Hazard! He's electric, all his goals and creativity since his come back from injury have come from the wide positions.

Agreed, watching Wilf play through the middle is infuriating, get him on the f***ing wing!!

I would of thought when we played Brighton, we'd have put wilf out wide unning at their 37 year old right back all game. He only did it once and the guy got booked....

Yep. He's sh1t and we didn't target him. I just hope this trickle of points accumulated works when we haven't taken teams that are there for the taking.

I think in fairness Wilf did drift out to the flank a lot more yesterday and there was even a period we went 433 at the end of the first half/start of the second but ultimately if we play that untidily in possession, all of our attacking players will be feeding off scraps, regardless of the set up.

It's quite obvious that RLC is a box to box central midfielder but in all honesty I can't see him replacing Cabaye or Luka in the middle and I think this is simply the system Roy likes, has always played it clubs of a similar stature and even did so at Liverpool. The concept behind the wide men are to be "wide midfielders" as opposed to wingers and I think Townsend is only recently playing in that position because he's too much of an important player to drop. (He's also shown a fantastic work rate this season)

The obvious formation for us is 4-3-3 with the players we have but I must say a couple of our performances at home with Wilf and Townsend getting in behind caused teams all sorts of problems, and we played some decent stuff. One must wonder if Benteke is a hinderance to this particular system. Seems to be an excuse for the back 4 to play hoofball in the last couple of games.

He did in the first few minutes and then returned to instructions in the middle.

Well I'm not really getting the big fuss over RLC

Agreed that where he is being played at the moment maybe doesn't play to his strengths. And perhaps that's why I think he flatters to deceive - I don't think his end product is all that. Obviously that will improve with experience, but at the moment I think we are in greater need of a more rounded player at Prem level.

I also don't think he has a great 'engine ' - without the ball he doesn't contribute as much as he could. He seems to be too top heavy physically.

He may be taking one for the team at the moment and playing out of position and clearly Roy thinks he's the best man for that job.

Anyway, I fully expect to be slated for my opinion, bring it on...

After initially thinking he might be able to play up front I had the end product doubt a few weeks ago. Seems to have the split second hesitation or need another look.
