The royal family should be abolished. The royal family are a waste of money, live in palaces while others starve simply because they are born blue blooded, and are needlessly worshiped by a adoring public, who should be focusing on matters that affect them instead. Besides, who cares about two young people getting married. We live in a warped society where the royals are adored and the homeless ignored. Pretty sad really

The royal family are a waste of money, live in palaces while others starve simply because they are born blue blooded, and are needlessly worshiped by a adoring public, who should be focusing on matters that affect them instead. Besides, who cares about two young people getting married. We live in a warped society where the royals are adored and the homeless ignored. Pretty sad really

Apart from the ridiculous amount of private land they and their extended family own across the uk, which if some of it were built on would certainly help the housing crisis, they are not a bad bunch really even if they do take the p1ss with our benefits system too. Economy? if your talking about tourism, and the myth that people come and visit the UK especially the yanks because of them is just that a myth.
Paris/France have always attracted more tourist to their country /city than the UK.
It seems history, culture surpasses any Royal link there.

I don't know, i'm not an economist, but there is something inherently wrong if the tax payer pays for it. Unless, of course the public can use these premises in the same way free access, staying the night etc..then that's ok.

A planned £369 million refurbishment to Buckingham Palace. Who will pay for that? and how many new houses could that help to build?
I don't know, i'm not an economist, but there is something inherently wrong if the tax payer pays for it. Unless, of course the public can use these premises in the same way free access, staying the night etc..then that's ok.

Or should we let them all crumble to ruin? People heavily criticise the Royals because they are always in the public eye and therefore an easy target. They do bring in more in revenue than they cost the taxpayer, which is a proven fact, and even if they do cost it is a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things

Just step back for one moment and think about what it says about us as a country that we address a group of people as Your Royal "Highness"... There are financial benefits from tourism and masses of financial minuses from having a royal family but personally I'd rather we got away from an international perception of being a ruritanian theme park with a PR managed "soap opera" royal family....yuk. CNN qoute was the most interesting and straight to the point I found, when reading those links.

Sounds a bit hypocritical. It's 2017 soon to be 18, and we still have a family who expect you to kneel or curtsy when meeting them, but worse than that, we have a a good majority of the British public who don't mind doing that, and think its acceptable or even normal.
