I always knew he could get back to playing well. I reckon a mixture of Roy and Sakho is rescuing Joel. Very good game today.

I think a very fair comment. I have often lamented Joel Ward for being a technically weak footballer but he is a solid right back, playing well currently and a world class cross against Everton to boot!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Ward is at his best at that. Similar with Dann sitting deep. That's a bit limiting when the wide midfielders in front of them aren't naturally wide players and require support. It wouldn't matter if there was a link in midfield but we lack that with the way players are set up. None of it would bother me in terms of staying up if starting from match 1. The prem probably can be safe if you keep it tight or rigid and keep a consistent trickle of points but we need a bit more than that. It's not a big criticism of Roy because he has the knowledge. It's more a tweak of players changing during the game rather than it going stale when we could assert ourselves and nail wins.

Full credit to him for getting back to his best. Deserves his place in the team. As he the clapping the fans, he always does it and I think it shows how much he appreciates the support in all the years he's been here. Wish more would follow his lead and soak up the love

Ward is very much a form player. Whenever the team is playing well he is right at the top of the list. Whenever we’re playing poorly he is one of the worst offenders

Yes there is no doubt Ward"s performances have improved recently but before 1 month ago he had played poorly for at least 2 yrs! I really hope we invest in a new RB in the summer who has the attributes which a modern day fullback needs. He"s too slow, can"t dribble or comfortable on the ball & these days a fullback needs to be able to play like a winger.

He was excellent today and the two of them work well on the same side. Goal aside, Sakho had another iffy game I thought.
Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time. |

A fullback needs to be able to defend, especially given the way we play. We’re not man city, we don’t need endless overlaps from a fullback who can’t defend reliably. Makes sense that man city are linked with PVA when we can’t really find a use for him
