That's the reason he's so important. And that's why for me we gotta keep the shackles off. Let him roam free and do what he does. He doesn't have to have the best of games, he doesn't have to see a lot of the football in every game. All he needs is one sniff and he'll unlock the game. Delighted to see Roy not just sticking him out wide as a disciplined out and out winger and letting him play off the front. He may see less possession sometimes, but it means his threat is constant for 90 minutes. COYP

COYP He chased back well to make decent tackles in the centre of the pitch as well which I thought showed how much the cause means to him.

Watching Wilf keep the ball at his feet when surrounded by defenders is like looking at an optical illusion - it just confuses my brain. He can come up with something magical at any moment and so long as he's in the team we'll always have a chance to snatch a late winner or equaliser in the game.

Another lesson for Roy. You never take off Wilf, full stop. Game changer.

He's never been the type to take full backs to the byline and just blindly whip balls in all game. Yes, he can do it if we need him to but it's so good to see him finally being given the freedom. He's been involved in nearly every goal this season. There's only so long you can double up and keep him quiet, he'll always find a yard. Love him.

Actually today he should've either gone wide or be told to go wide more often, especially when Benteke was on and Cheek is wasted on the right and ineffective there compared to through the middle. Roy got that wrong today. The one time Wilf had the ball wide and bearing down on defence, we scored and won in the dying minutes. Until then our survival was slipping through our fingers as we bizarrely seemed okay with strolling towards another draw. Set up wasn't working first half and it wasn't to strength 2nd half and not good enough either. But we got some good luck playing poorly rather than the usual other way round.

It was good to hear Steve Parish on Football Focus saying he's going nowhere in January. Would be madness to sell.

Yeah I mean I actually agree. My point is we have to be flexible with him and let him roam. He'll drift in and out of games, but I'd prefer a quiet Wilf who is decisive in key moments to an out and out traditional right midfielder, especially in the system Roy uses, the wide men are quite rigid. Hence RLC and Mccarthur playing there. In reality he can play anywhere and he'd be our best player. But taking a man on is always suited more for a winger who plays in an inverted position. You rarely see the likes of Sanchez/Hazard/Neymar on the right despite the fact they're all right footed. Wilf is undoubtedly our version. It's about freedom more than anything else, no point restricting Wilf anymore.

Fair comment but there was a big fault in almost no link up play between midfield and attack, or midfield and the wrong person. Midfield linking up with Benteke and Wilf standing up top. Wasn't working. Ideally you'd have Wilf linking up out of the two. What was with those balls played to Benteke to chase into the corners all about? Poor. Mainly by players less gifted with the ball like Ward because we didn't have a couple of players doing what they can. The other downside is Cheek isn't a right midfielder and is a waste on the right and he is the natural link up man. Maybe Wilf needs to switch with Cheek now and again or go wide more often because he was anonymous for most of the match and injury time isn't always going to deliver the hopeful end.
