Are we becoming less relevant on the world stage? No British judge on world court for first time in its 71-year history Still at least we'll have our sovereignty, which we kind of had any way.

If losing influence on the world stage means we’re less likely to steam roller into other countries, meddle in their affairs and totally f*** them over I’m more than happy with that. We probably are losing influence on the world stage. Countries like Denmark are frequently lauded as doing exceptionally well in the happiness stakes and i’m sure they have considerably less world clout than us. Is it such a terrible thing? Will it mean our country implodes? I guess only time will tell.

It of course depends on what that actually means..id suggest that not having a seat on a body id never heard anyway.. could actually make us more relevant

Never had you down as a British nationalist, pining after Britain as world power, judging the 'lesser' countries etc.

Problem is lots of those in Government believe we're still a major world power and pine for the days of the Empire. We're clearly less relevant and become even less so by the day. We also lost the European Medicines Agency and Banking Authority yesterday. 1050 jobs and a seat at the table of two important (globally) regulatory authorities. Will cost us more to replace them than what we contributed to their running as well seeing as it's a shared cost and it's not like you have to do less work (major economies of scale on the medicines side (900 jobs)).

I hope so. If by standing we mean trying to be the world's policemen and interfering in other countries. There are plenty of economically successful countries who do not feel it is their moral duty to send troops (aid yes). Unless our national interests are genuinely threatened we need to dial it back. I like the attitude of Sweden. They are neutral but have a strong military. Back in the eighties they regularly depth charged Russian subs in their waters. The Russians got the message. So for me No to foreign adventures Yes to free trade deals and disaster aid. As for the UN court don't care and why shouldn't a major democracy like India have it's turn.

So what do we do if Russia takes over Sweden then?

10 minutes ago I didn't know any of this existed Now I'm an expert and I'm outraged! Joking aside, I wouldn't worry. No point.
