After his stunning performance on Saturday night for the three lions, I was just wondering what you all thought out chances of signing him up proper were?

I'm actually feeling pretty optimistic about it myself. (I know, crazy, right?) Obviously a MOTM for England isn't going to help us in that he'll become even more attractive to other teams, but we all know Chelsea's dire history with youth players. And being a local lad, he does seem to share a connection with both the area and the club. Whether or not we'd actually shell the money to get him is another story, but I don't reckon the price'll be too high, so we might have a shot.

Either way, he's exactly the sort of player we need - a proper number 10 who can provide the spark between Zaha, Townsend and Benteke. Fingers crossed

The price will be enormous, especially now that he's been capped - not that I think Chelsea will sell anyway.

We cannot even think about it until we are sure of survival in the Premiership.

First four games our best player IMO but getting nagging doubts about final pass and finishing.

What was so special about his performance for England? I really don't understand the fascination with him all of a sudden. So many English players get over hyped and then called s*** because they don't turn World Class. Sky etc always do it.

All I've seen since the Germany game is how amazing he is and how Chelsea are stupid to loan him out.

I don't think he's done much for us and especially not enough to make us spend money getting him on a perm. Was very surprised he even got a call up as I think Townsend has been much better than hin this season.

Now he's played for England his price will go up a few mill anyway.

Maybe he just needs to be playing every week in s team not in relegation battle who have hardly any possesion?

Missed some good chances pre injury when clearly our best player and post injury being played away from the middle. The guy's only played 20 odd times. He is clearly quality, with a few areas needing improvement but this is the most competitive league. Get quality around him on his wavelength with defending on the def mid rather than our third and he can do the business.

I see lots of chelsea fans want him back now, think him getting good reviews at wembley has scuppered any chance of us getting him permenantly, thats if we wanted him!

I have clearly lost the plot with modern day sport. I would call LC average as a premier player. At international level I just didn't get it.
Yet suddenly he is a super star. Good luck to him. For me my interest is waning fast. I am thinking it's all a load of old cobblers. We are in the mire so it is a terrible season. Everyone keeps saying we will come good. But honestly I am not getting it. Like I say I have clearly lost it. I hope I have at a football level at least.

I'd agree with this.

On chance would be if his contract hasn't long on it and he wants to stay. Otherwise no chance without spending a small fortune.

There not gonna want him to be te next big thing to leave on the cheap.

So anyone know what his contract situation is?

Edit: I think in February he'll have three years left. So no chance of him coming on the cheap. Would imagine he's £20m minimum.

There's always a chance. A club like Chelsea could spend £100mill on two midfielders before the loan is out and push Ruben further down the pecking order.

We are in London only 6 miles from where he was brought up and if he is happy here and we stay up I reckon we might just nick him.

How much will he cost?

Surely you don't think we should blow all our money on one player rather than spread it across strengthening the whole squad..?
