Alan Pardew made Scott Dann our captain. With a huge dip in form for our precious central defender. Now Punch is more or less out of the team, our new gaffer has also given SD the captain armbind. Could not believe it at first, but now he's back to his very best. Calm, cool & collected and seemingly not bothered (in a negative way) being the captain. Is it the presence of Sakho? Or smt Roy H has told Dann? The way he patted Sakho on his head after the "famous" back-heel vs Chelsea, was such a wonderful moment. Seems those two already has found a very good understanding and rely on each other, making our full backs more comfortable as well. Long may it last.....but hey, we're the roller-coaster of the league so who knows?

It seems at Palace the captains armband is being used as a morale booster to improve an individuals performance rather than the traditional use of showing who all the players must take instruction from on the pitch.

It seems to be a good idea so far, even as just a short term fix. Puncheon was a good flair player and goal scorer at one point but visibly lost ability. Sam gave him the armband and whilst he didn’t transform into a goal scoring attacking mid, he did start running and trying more, covering midfielders and being vocal.

I feel like Luka runs the midfield anyway, with Sakho running the defence so the idea of needing a proper Captain is a bit outdated. It seems like we have a few leaders sprinkled around the pitch but Roy has identified Dann may need that additional formality to get the best out of him.

Or it’s a one off and we lose the next 7 now. Let’s wait and see.

Its just like rain on your wedding day. And the good advice, you just cant take - like when Brighty told Parish that hiring FDB was like Inter Milan appointing Colin.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

Fair enough,as long as the team win I don't care who is Captain.
Our first win let's keep it up.

Exactly. There's too much emphasis on the role of Captain, when it's almost entirely ceremonial yet can completely f*** with team selection as managers feel they cannot drop their captain.

Leaders will lead, armband or no. Of course, if Hodge wants to make Speroni Captain - entirely appropriate as the most senior player - meaning that he takes precedent over Hennessey, then I'm all in.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Ray agreed.
I think Germany select the most senior capped player.
Hasn't done them any harm.

Chels looked all at sea on Saturday and that's when a captain (at least in the old days) pushes some players and tries to change direction. Something they did not have but that was a mainly one-off

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

No doubt in my mind that Dann’s return to form coincided with having Speroni behind him.
