Agreed and Wilf was far more confident than his last TV appearance on 'Play To The Whistle'.

I remember back in 1989-92 tearing my hair out wondering why, with so many good players that we had, did we not then try to become a proper football playing, passing well, technique laden team like Tottenham. But we stuck with long ball tactics. Great success but very short-lived.

Sure he's going to make a difference but with no striker and teams targeting him more than ever he's going to have to be Gareth Bale type level to pull us out of this sh1t. I don't see it until we have Zaha, cheek, Townsend and a fit striker all available in the front 4.

Came across well. He likes to feel aappreciated and I think the arrival of Roy will play into that mentality nicely. Mark my words. He will be our captain one day.

But we stuck with long ball tactics. Great success but very short-lived. If you want to play 'football' you have to sign players who can do it. The board want Barcelona and spend peanuts. There are teams in the PL who spend a fortune and will always outplay teams like us passing the ball. We will only compete with them in that respect when we have as much money as them. It's obvious. Sam Allardyce proved that you can beat top teams by playing to your strengths, not trying to be something you are not. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (13 Oct 2017 11.22am)

Yeah I think we've got a fairly good shot at staying up, but there's no way I'd have him as Captain, unless he really wanted it, doesn't quite have the personality for it, also I think it would shackle him a bit. You want players like that to be selfish, to a point, to get the most out of them. And in no way is he a luxury player, he's hard working off the ball,Pardew made sure of that.
