I actually wouldn't mind us reverting to a back 3/back 5 for this game. If I remember correctly we had a back 5 last season at Stamford Bridge. Provided Wilf is fit my line up would be - ------------------Hennessey-------------------- ---Ward---TFM--Dann---Sakho----PVA--- -------------Luka-------Riedewald------------ -------------------Cabaye----------------------- Like most of my lineups, I fully appreciate that this is unlikely, but it's something I personally wouldn't mind seeing. Given the striker situation, we clearly need to improvise. So instead of just wacking a bang average championship winger up top because he's a "big man", this could be an alternative. Wilf and Townsend using the pace they have to try and get in behind with Cabaye as the engine room looking to play them in. Could actually be a fairly dynamic front 3 if implemented properly. Really would like to see a bit more of a Riedewald but would probably be a bit of an ask to put him as a centre half against them lot. Good opportunity to have two midfielders solely focused on holding. Reason I went for Ward is he won't really be playing as a "wing back" against Chelsea and can focus more on being positioned defensively - I still have doubts about TFM in that position and I think alongside Sakho and Dann that's a good variation of 3 proper defenders. Was tempted to put Speroni in there but it's so unlikely it's not even worth considering.
We're the Arthur over ere! |

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

For what it's worth, Kante is expected to miss the trip because of the injury he picked up on international duty. That helps us a lot in midfield, I believe, he's ridiculous.

------------------Speroni-------------------- With Chelsea having a few injuries and us being at home this line up should get us a point or even maybe three!
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

Hennessey TFM Dann Sakho Schlupp Luka JMac Cabaye Wilf Sako Townsend And I would rotate the front 3 around but if we seem to be creating I'd keep stop rotating until they figure us out. The only thing I would not try is to put Townsend through the middle. Whoever is wide has to work hard to support the midfield and full backs.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
