Some Man City fans saying our first half performance was one of the best from an away team at the Etihad!!! Maybe they are being kind after winning 5-0!!! It was certainly a strange game!!! We were better at times than last week against Southampton. Perhaps we need to accept that City at their best will take most teams apart

“This is a crisis, a large crisis.... in fact if you have a moment, it’s a 12 storey crisis, magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24 hour portage , and an enormous sign on the roof saying “This , is a large crisis” - Edmund Blackadder |

We were excellent in the first half and Loftus-Cheek looks as if he could do some damage. He and WIlf together should be terrific. As soon as we conceded the first goal though we lost confidence and started making mistakes, and we didn't adapt when City changed things. Against a team like that you have to concentrate 100%. It's the old problem of being able to play football for 90 or 100 minutes instead of 30 or 40. Crack that and we should be OK.

Yes, we defended very well for large parts of the first half with a back four who looked pleasingly organized and well drilled. We even had lady luck on our side. However, the inevitable came just before HT and despite whatever he said or however RH addressed the team during the break the team went to pieces in the second. Yes, it was always a likely defeat, and a substantial one, but we can't keep clutching at these 1st half or 2nd half performances as signs of positivity. The last time I looked a match is 90 minutes and that is how long the players must be switched on.

First half gives me hope as we played excellent in a disciplined well organised way when we didn't have the ball. Cheek could be a real star for us, but like others he has to start taking his chances as he's had a few. Wilf will give us a massive boost, but confidence will be very low and the 1st goal in the game has gone from being important to critical. Edited by Dangermouse (24 Sep 2017 9.29am)

If these guys are earning a sensible wage then I may have some more sympathy for poor performances. But they are getting ridiculous rewards for their privileged occupation. Surgeons are paid well enough but have nothing like the renumeration that PL players have (unless they're in LA working yet again on Cher's face). But they have people's lives in their hands and that pressure can only be imagined by the rest of. For £30,000 a week upwards surely we can expect a good level of fitness and some heart. Not just courage but heart.
