Hope Ederson is ok, looked a nasty one. No intent from Mane though but it brings back memories of Calvin Andrews and his karate kick to the keepers face. I often think that keepers get too much protection from the ref but incidents like this show how much they throw themselves in the way.

If your foot is that high it's you that is playing dangerously if it connects with someone's face. Red card every day of the week.

Spot on. Whether there was intent or not that is seriously dangerous play. That should be a red card all day long.

Hope the Keeper recoverers quickly however he was down for 10 mins and got stretched off for a fracture in his jaw? Come on now, footballers are the biggest pussies in the world of sports.

I would imagine it's more down to the medical team worrying about neck injuries than the keeper himself but having never run full pelt into the studs of someone else running full pelt I can't be sure....

fair enough, though i would say you don't see that many stoppages in say the NFL unless somebody is seriously injured and thats 2 250lbs men smashing into each other head first. Or in Muay thai where people are having shinbones smashed into there skulls, or boxing where they've been knocked out cold. To me it seems that they are made of soft stuff.

One of those where you see it being given a yellow sometimes but it obviously did endanger the keeper despite no malice from Mane. Shame as it spoiled the game. City obviously went on to win at a canter however against 11 their back 3(5) were all over the place at times. Just shows how difficult the system is to master even when you have supposed high quality players/manager. Does make you think if they struggle at it then how the hell will we pull it off with the likes of Kelly still lurking around! Edited by samprior (09 Sep 2017 2.44pm)

Should Mane have been sent off today? Maybe, maybe not. His foot was chest high, the keeper's head was below shoulder height. Should bicycle kicks/overhead kicks be banned in that case? Should a foot over waist height be a foul? Is it only if a player is stupid/brave enough to put his head in the way? Take a look at this Benteke bicycle kick for Liverpool v Manchester United. Had the Man U defender not have bottled it he'd have lost his head yet the goal counted. So, should this type of goal be banned?

Mane came lunging in and both feet were off the ground when his high foot made contact so a definite 'Red' for me.

Mane didn't lunge he went for a chest high ball, the keeper put his head down to get it. So, no over waist high kicking and no below the shoulder heading. Wait, how do we enforce this for different height players?
