Troubling assessment by Dom in today's Guardian - and he is usually very supportive: Crystal Palace Little makes sense about Crystal Palace’s recruitment strategy. If money is as tight as the outlay suggests, a repercussion of an onerous wage bill, then why was a manager appointed who was always going to try to instigate a radical shift in the style of play? Surely he needed sufficient backing in the market to achieve such ambitious plans? As it is, Palace are pointless and a club on edge. The pursuit of Mamadou Sakho was protracted and almost a distraction in the end. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jaïro Riedewald and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are young and hugely talented but will not be prepared for the scrap that may lie ahead. Little makes sense about Crystal Palace’s recruitment strategy. If money is as tight as the outlay suggests, a repercussion of an onerous wage bill, then why was a manager appointed who was always going to try to instigate a radical shift in the style of play? Surely he needed sufficient backing in the market to achieve such ambitious plans? As it is, Palace are pointless and a club on edge. The pursuit of Mamadou Sakho was protracted and almost a distraction in the end. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jaïro Riedewald and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are young and hugely talented but will not be prepared for the scrap that may lie ahead. DF

Back in May the plan was sign Sakho plus 1,which we have done. Plus we have taken up the two loans.This has come from the £40 million estimated budget. Add to that the 3 players signed in January. Dougie Freedmans salary and Frank plus his team. The way I see it,we are short up front but the main thing is Frank needs to line the team up similar to the Arsenal game. And we will be fine. Palace 13th 2017/18.

Once he retired Parish said that there would need to be funds for a few signings for a new manager and, as a result, the Sakho deal was unlikely. That was the plan, agreed with Allardyce, assuming that he was staying. Once he retired Parish said that there would need to be funds for a few signings for a new manager and, as a result, the Sakho deal was unlikely. We've ended up with the Allardyce scenario, but with de Boer as manager.

The players are good enough, when fit, so long as they are played to their strengths. Hopefully FDB can see that too, he's been in the game long enough. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Yes you're right we have a good first team when they are all fit and playing to their strengths. The problem is that there is no depth and no game changers to come on when it isn't working. Last season we were hampered by injuries and we've started off the same this year. The lack of options upfront and in creative areas will probably be our undoing. Yes you're right we have a good first team when they are all fit and playing to their strengths. The problem is that there is no depth and no game changers to come on when it isn't working. Last season we were hampered by injuries and we've started off the same this year. The lack of options upfront and in creative areas will probably be our undoing.

No depth in the squad- unless we're planning to plug any holes from injuries etc with Academy kids in the short term. Deeply disappointing transfer window, and we are left gambling there are 3 teams worse than us. Brighton and Newcastle probably are (Newcastle had nearly as bad a window as we did). Swansea, with Bony and Sanchez yesterday, will probably be alright. Huddersfield should be okay. Have to hope someone like Watford has a really poor season... Really want FDB to do well, but it's a Catch 22. To change the way a team plays completely he really needs a whole season. He won't get it though. A whole season will see us revolutionising our style in the Championship

Really want FDB to do well, but it's a Catch 22. To change the way a team plays completely he really needs a whole season. He won't get it though. A whole season will see us revolutionising our style in the Championship

Who gives a s*** what he says. Once we get firing on all cylinders he'll be lording over us. Yes we've messed up not getting another striker but we've made massive improvements to the defensive.
