Every time AJ was one on one with the keeper I felt confident he would score, I feel totally the opposite with Big Ben unless the ball is head height.

Regardless of Bentekes aerial prowess I would rather AJ any day of the week.

Aj and benteke would make a dream partnership

Different players. Ones a target man ones a vardy type.

Bingo. This is like comparing Mark Bright to Julian Speroni.

Allardyce was on TalkSh!te this morning and one of the things he said was that it's meaningless to compare players from one era of the game with players from another because everything is so different. Very true.

Obviously it was TalkSh!te so they weren't allowed to mention Palace.

I have fond memories of the A.J & Shipperley front 2 that produced the play-off final goal against West Ham at the Cardiff Stadium. A.J & Benteke would quite possibly have been a great front 2, but the days of us playing that system seem distant and unlikely to reappear-even more until we buy a 2nd striker. They are far too different in play and role to be compared.

That was a great day despite a 12 hour round-trip train journey with every West Ham supporter in the country.

Not convinced Shipperley knew much about that goal, it just sort of ricocheted off his knee if I remember correctly. But I'll take it!

I think a better comparison is Benteke and Sonogo

What a pointless thread ffs. Why does everyone feel the need to put our players down for no reason?

f***. Off.

As much as I loved AJ, Benteke has consistently scored goals in the top division for what 5-6 seasons and looks like he will continue to do so. Different types of players. In the record books Benteke will go down as the better. We should appreciate him. He depends on service.
