No 'they' don't. One person given airtime in the guardian does. Actually the left are not clamouring for it just one person looking to make a mountain out of a non issue. This is a joke because it equates a complete non issue over here with a real problem in the states with the construction and appreciation of Confederate iconography by the far right. No one in their right mind, politically left or right agrees with this knob. Edited by coulsdoneagle (22 Aug 2017 6.38pm)

I joked about this the other day and now some people are serious about it. This is what happens when imbeciles are given authority.

The title of the thread should read 'Now she wants Nelson's Column pulled down.' Blimey, amazing how much attention one lady can get if she sticks her opinions in the Guardian, for which she used to work. Still, builds her profile as a Barrister and 'Human Rights Development Worker' don't it?

Replace Horatio with Mandela - something tasteful - a tyre round his neck?
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

It is simply a product of the ridiculous times we live in. What they are hoping to achieve by removing statues embedded in the cultural history of a place, whether or not it is virtuous, is wrong and bound to provoke and create a further divide.

Someone might be mistaken for thinking that many people whose ancestors used to be part of our Empire would like to see our institutions undermined before they take over.
