1) We can play a defensively disciplined game in 3-4-3 and it just might take a few games to adapt but is doable
2) Benteke and Puncheon don't really have a home in this formation. Benteke looks slow and isolated and Puncheon isn't in our top 2 central mids. At the moment he's just making us play RLC or of position for no good reason
3) We are pretty toothless without Wilf

In summary I'm not as concerned with the defence as I was but we look awful as an attacking unit without Zaha. Gonna be a long month unless we sign a tasty winger

agree 100%, if not for Milo's mistake we would likely have gotten a point. Not blaming Milo, he ran his socks off and likely tiredness played a part.

Benteke seems only fit for a team that can continually cross the ball for him.
JP we have known about for a while.

WH put in a good shift though, have not understood his naysayers. I guess they will complain about the Liverpool goal today.

We need a more dynamic forward, not sure where you will get it though. I would have loved Chicharito.

We need 5 or 6 players at least, I doubt we'll sign more than 1 if that, will be a January panic job again if we are lucky

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Liverpool has 13 shots on target, we had one! So we learnt that we have an outstanding keeper. And welearnt that a manager can destroy our defence and offence simultanously!

Couldn't hold on to the ball for love nor money. w***y 70th minute goal conceded, no surprises there really. Ok defensively, pretty similar to last season really.

No it wasn't just down to that mistake Liverpool was all over us at the end changes needed to be made but came too late.

Milo was great today him and Cheek looked real quality shame Punch is not up to that standard he needs to be dropped.

WH did nothing special all those he saved you would expect him to do so but again he looked iffy at times he is another we need to buy replacement for.

Benteke can play only one way that is the problem with him which is why he did poor at Liverpool he can't adapt we really need another striker.

Wilf wouldn't of made much of a difference in that game i think the way Liverpool are they would of wound him up just look at the ref treatment of Benteke he was doing nothing wrong yet ref always sided with Liverpool player.

I agree should of gone for Chicharito his trnasfer fee was nothing really in this market and yes he wanted wages demands around 140 but again that is not that much wilf/benteke/cabaye are on that sort of money he is proven.

If you look at the stats from last season's win at Anfield we had only three shots on target and 28% possession. Not a lot different from today. The difference is that we didn't have Zaha to create chances for us today and Bentenke fluffed his lines. Don't be a drama queen.

An improved performance and signs that FdB will adapt our game according to who we're playing, etc. As the Liverpool goal came fairly late there was little chance to change tactically and throwing Dann up (given our lack of a back-up striker) was about the only option.

Some big positives today and good to see he gave Kai Kai a chance in a game that actually meant something.

Onwards!

Benteke is just a lump, sorry but i cant stand the bloke. He is lazy, can't control the ball, supposedly the best header in Europe (really) doesn't harry defenders as the 1st line of defence. At £32 million i would expect him to be all over the pitch and missing chances for fun. If he had been a £400k signing from Rochdale he would be banished to the reserves never to be seen again.

Thought Kaikai was promising when he came on - nice shot though the whistle had gone

You cannot reflect fairly on these stats, a shot that just misses the goal could be a lot nearer to going in than one straight at the keeper!
Today's performance just showed how sacking Pardew was not a good idea.
