And Gayle's came with about 300 minuteas less on pitch

Neither provided many assists.

Admittedly, Benteke has much more physical presence but interesting that at 2x the transfer price he is considered relatively good value but Gayle might be regarded as a bit disappointing

Stats don't really help. Benteke was key in all three of our goals at home to Arsenal. Not even assists but winning the ball and getting our team forward. He offered more in one season to our team then Gayle did his entire time here.

Gayle's goals per minutes ratio was right up there and I was disappointed to sell him. The money obviously made sense but I reckon a lot of us would have him in the squad now as back up.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

If we got Townsend out of the deal then it was a good deal.

I liked Gayle but the managers didn't and I suspect that they knew / know a lot more about football than I ever will.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

But he wouldn't want to be a back up. That's why he left in the first place...

Neil Warnock said Gayle had the s***test attitude at training if he wasn't being picked. Can't stand players like that so was pleased when he went. Will be reserve at Newcastle this season and the cycle will start again.

You won't find many Palace fans who would doubt Gayle's ability to put the ball in the net.

However, his overall contribution to the team was light-years behind Benteke's.

Newcastle will get murdered this coming season if they go 4-4-2 or play with Gayle as the central front man.

I still think Gayle could do a good job as an Inside-left for us in FdB's 3-4-3, but he'd be in the queue behind Wilf and probably Townsend (Andros' work rate trumps Gayle's all day long).

I'd still lump on him to score against us, though!

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

Stats only help when they er help. Even allowing 2 assists per goal, he only provided one since last November
Still think there is more to come though
