I know that 1% of his wage isnt much at all but if all footballers did that and all those who earn a similar wage did the same or gave even more it would hopefully make a difference.

They would argue they are in the top 1% of top taxpayers who contribute to about 28% of the total tax

1%? Seriously?!? On that kind of money and 1% is the best he can do? Pathetic! When he gives 10%+ then I'll be impressed.

It's his money and he doesn't have to give anything at all does he? End of the day it don't matter what money he earns, It's his to do what he pleases. This 1% is more than you give charity isn't it. I don't give to charity and probably wouldn't if I had money like him so fair play to him. Edited by miles18 (06 Aug 2017 8.03pm)

Yeah, i thought similar but, hey, if they all did the same it might set an example for all those who earn loads to donate to charity. Although then again charities themselves are pretty dodgy... giving them all that money. who knows what theyd do with it???? Its a funny old game...

I know it doesn't make a difference, but is this pre-tax? If so, how many people are donating 1% of, say an average £25'000 per year to charity?

Good for him, provided he's paying his taxation.

Most people are paying 20% of their salary just in income tax. Let alone 20% tax on almost everything they purchase etc. Whilst I don't agree with overtaxation of anyone, the capacity for the wealthy and highest earners to avoid taxation is massive. I want to see everyone who earns sharing the burden equally, as a percentage, and that revenue utilised for the benefit and progress of society as a whole.

Good for him. Are all footballers doing this? Doubt it, so whether it's 0.1%, 1% or 10% let's not berate a guy for donating some money to charity that he's not being forced to.

Edited by miles18 (06 Aug 2017 8.03pm) Replies like yours make me laugh! No he doesn't have to give anything away, but when someone like him on that kind of money draws attention to what they're doing then it kind of devalues the sentiment. As for your assumption about how much I give you're obviously judging by your own very low standards.
