The academy has been a bit part of Palace, of our DNA unfortunately not been as prosperous of late. Interested to know players when then they first broke through the academy and thought wow what a player but sadly for one reason or another they didn't reach the heights of your expectations. The main example gotta to be john bostock. Anyone have an more academy product you thought they were on to big things but didn't live up to your original thought.

sean scannell, was great as a youngster, just never really made it past where he started at. i would say victor moses but hes doing well at chelsea and would have him back as a starter, could have him playing where townsend is playing rn! o'keefe could have been better and defo lil johhny williams, one game he shone next to jedi in def mid. and atm kaikai needs to show more to get into first team, looks like a youngerster who doesnt know who hes playing for, but havent watched him enough in other clubs to see

O'Keefe wasn't an academy product. He was bought from Southend by Freedman who had played with him at the end of his career. Bostock, Moses, Watson, Clyne and Zaha are those I really thought wow. Scannell grew on me but never properly kicked on although I thought he had the potential to be a really good striker. Ashley Paul-Robinson and another winger who I have forgotten his name round about the same time were a couple of youth products who looked like they could be really promising but never made it. Probably down to attitude and work ethic more than lack of ability, especially APR with his "on dis ting" episode

I thought for a while that Lee Hills would become a regular first team player . Made his debut at just 17 and looked the real deal .

Tom Soares. I initially thought Cadogan would be better than Zaha.

Another +1 for Scannell. I remember seeing Zaha break through and I foolishly said to my dad "How is this lightweight getting games? He'll never be a patch on Sean Scannell". This is why I generally only post on "Fun Talk".

Kim Cattrall as a brunette. Maybe the blonde senior with the melons.

This is why I generally only post on "Fun Talk". I heard from friends that Scannell was a really cocky guy and being a footballer sort of got to his head (just what I heard). I think I've heard similar about Lee Hills and obviously there were the cases of Bostock and Ashley Paul Robinson. On the flip side you never heard anything attitude related about the ones that went on to have more success; Moses, Watson, Clyne or Zaha apart from a bit of tabloid crap when Wilf was at Man U. Scannells not had a bad career at all but it may be a case of too much too young in his case that stopped him from going on to anything more than a squad player in the Championship.

That's interesting. I've always had quite a soft spot for him and hoped he'd do well, but less so if he's a cocky sod! I don't know about the others, but my Mrs has met Victor Moses several times and says he's quite a quiet guy but a generally nice bloke. Backs that up.

Lee Hills I went to Hartlepool to watch him play his debut for the England Under 19s. Excellent prospect until a serious knee injury... Originally posted by Elpis
