I've just posted this under 3-4-3 but thinking about it, it might deserve it's own topic. What do you think?

The only position I can see Punch getting into the team believe it or not is at right wing back. Before anyone dies laughing remember that Milner has successfully converted to this role and Punch to me is a better tackler than Townsend and better going forward than Ward, so if he could learn his trade in that position it answers the question of keeping the captain in the team without him taking up either Cabaye's or Luka's position.

Based on current staff the team for me would be:

Hennessey

Punch, Tomkins, Dann, Reidewald, PVA

Cabaye, Milivojevic

Townsend, Benteke, Zaha

You need energy as wingback, if he wasn't captain you wouldn't even consider the idea. Think it would be a disaster personally.

Milner has converted to lb in a 4-3-3 , not wingback in a 3-4-3 , he had also already played lb quite a few times at club level and for the under 21s when he was younger.

Personally I think if we are playing this formation we need specialist wing backs for it to truly work

Can't maintain possession when passing with his left foot so on his right he would be awful. Souare is probably the only player at the club who is more one footed.
I agree positions are at a premium but on that basis bench rather than RWB...

To be honest this is why I mentioned it because most already are saying that he shouldn't be there, so where do you play him and given that question, why is he captain, because captain should be first name on the team sheet every time?

What about fans favourite, Julian Speroni? Train up to not reflexively use his hands and I reckon he'd be just as good up the right hand side as Joel Ward. Thoughts?

You adjust the formation to a 3-5-2

Hennessy

Tomkins dann. Riedewald

Rwb (new). PVA

Luka

Cabaye Puncheon

Zaha. Benteke

So what you are saying is that Punch is better than Townsend. Sorry I can't agree with that.

I now saying he's better but he suits the cm role more than Townsend

In 3-5-2

You have 3 cb's - Rcb, cb, Lcb
2 wingbacks- rwb , Lwb
3 central mids - cdm, cm , cm
2 strikers- right striker and left striker
