Have recently published an article for the Last word on football- a website publishing football articles. My first fully published article is on the Palace-Brighton rivalry, would love it if you guys could take a look and tell me what you think!

Very good, informative. Taught a Palace fan of 40 years something new, didn't know they changed their nickname...b******s. Will show to my wife as she don't know why I hate Brighton so much. Well done mate.

Nice read... However, we were also the first team to beat them in their new home!

My memory is fading here, but I went to a Palace v Brighton game relatively early in the 'Eagles' era, and it took me a while to realise that Brighton fans were responding to chants of "Eagles" by chanting "Seagulls". I took it that they were mocking our nickname. Thing is; I'm convinced that this pre-dates the nickname switch referred to in the article.

Another memory, possibly from the same game, is seeing a bloke wearing a top embroidered with "Sea-Eagles". Even today I don't quite get why, although others around me seemed to think it was quite funny.

Can anyone help with these confused memories. Nurse.....NURSE!!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

A very good report on what occurred that night albeit that the wind and rain made it quite an uncomfortable journey home for us cheering Palace supporters. It seems almost unreal that Alan Mullery went on to become our Manager after what he did albeit that he didn't stay with the Eagles for long. That being said, I still count Millwall followed by Charlton as being our main rivals.

Boxing Day (defeats) at The Goldstone

Peter Ward's destruction of us and Brian Horton's arrogance

Running battles in the streets behind the away section

Henry Hughton's broken leg

The Kelvin Morton 'Five Penalties' match

Accompanying promotions in 77 and 79

Massive attendances in the old 3rd division

Good article but imho, too weighted toward recent histories. The establishment of our rivalry was that core period of 1976 to 1981 wherein no prisoner was ever taken.

I remember those games in the late 70 and early 80's... carnage.. However, at around 12 years old I stayed after a game and all the fighting a coin trowing had stopped and all had left and made myself a then small fortune for a 12 year old! I think I remember 5 quid in 50 pence pieces, loads of 10's and stacks of 2's! I left the ground and fighting was still going on, I had trouser and coat pockets full of coins and a stack in my hands, and to my joy some guy gave me 4 shining 50p coins for my fist full of 2's, great day business!

It was kicking off in 74 at the Goldstone
When loads of palace were in the home end

Loads of trouble all around Brighton
Had a bit of fun at the entrance of the Palace pier also😁

Don't know any Brighton fans and don't want to know any of them and could not care any less about them 👍
