Its possible that with the focus on youth (hoorah) we will have more than 25 in the submitted squad this time around: 3 GK (13 Wayne Hennessey, 1 Julian Speroni + one to sign) 5 CM (28 Luka Milivojevic, 20 Jonny Williams 5 Wingers (42 Jason Puncheon, 26 Bakary Sako 4 Strikers (17 Christian Benteke, 21 Connor Wickham At the moment we are heading towards at least 27 players available, which will stop us looking quite so gaunt. Its the only tactic really, we need depth and its the only real way to get it. We need more 21 year olds. Parrot

Couldn't agree more. Rather we give places to young players we hunk may be good enough than sign more dross that aren't good enough but have 'experience' elsewhere.

No Papa Souare in that list I see. Hopefully if you're right we will see him back in the squad for the second half of the season. And no Mutch either. God let's hope so!

Am I right or wrong in thinking we submit a squad of 25 and anyone under the age of 21 can be added at any time as they don't count towards the 25. So it's 25 plus how which ever under 21 we want that week? Or do they need to be declared and do they take up space ?

I'm not sure that Delaney will be part of the 25 man squad come September. I think he was maybe given a one year deal so he was under contract and could be sold for a fee. More likely he may end up going out on loan.

The reasons he got a contract are prob one of two: There's no way we offered him to stay to try and make money from a sale, as it will cost us more in wages by the time we get to sept than the sale would cost!

Yep. Delanney represents a good option as a back up defender - in that he's got experience with the team and is a decent player (and he's not going anywhere as no ones going to make him as good a offer) - and will be a useful option from the bench for adding a bit of steel to see out games. Otherwise you have to sign an unknown to sit on the bench. Its a good idea to slowly phase out your back four, this way. He'll be able to come on and know how the other three or four defenders will play around him.
