Reports: West Brom and Crystal Palace looking at defender after Manchester City release

The right-back is a free agent after departing the Etihad Stadium
BY JOSEPH CHAPMAN
08:50, 13 JUL 2017

West Brom and Crystal Palace are among the clubs interested in offering Bacary Sagna a contract, according to reports in France.

L’Equipe suggest Albion and the Eagles have the beating of Turkish duo Galatasaray and Bursaspor because of the offer of Premier League football - a division Sagna would rather remain in.

French international Sagna, 34, was released by Manchester City at the end of his contract last season after playing shy of 100 matches across three campaigns. Maybe worth a look at this one mind you at 34 and probably high wage demands will probably mean we won't touch him , shame though he's quite a good right back

Worth a 1 yr deal, competition for ward place and we lost big earners in remy and flamini. As long as signing on fee isn't huge, I don't see the problem with this deal.

For sure. Someone with his prem experience would be well worth it for a year or two.

He's 34. I think we should look for a long term upgrade for Ward.

they have been miles, but so far not successful, de boer prb wants someone to take to Hong kong with them to bed in all the quicker.

I think Sagna for one season to fill in the RB weakness is a good fix.

then de boer has time to asses better targets world wide for jan or summer 18

Sagna is an excellent crosser of a ball. He puts in dangerous crosses from the right which could be lapped up by a target man in the middle. This is one of the features of his game.

Aged 34,No sell-on value, Wages etc - Not appealing to my "Business head" and there is always a business side to football.

Was the adebayor, flamini and Shola ameobi good business sense, no they weren't but we released 6 players and currently have a small squad. Would I be jumping for joy no but a club like are can't afford to constantly spend 15m + on every recruit. It a sensible move especially as so far , frank bought in a lot of potential rather than proven players.

To me they didn't seem to make sense business or football wise. Football clubs of course make good and bad decisions - cannot get them all right.

Looking at the 25 man squad released for Asia cup. We still short of at least 4 to 5 players minimum. While Sagna not ideal, he does have prem experience, whereas RLC and the potential signing JR have little or none.

I'd rather have a 3 yr plan but sometimes you got to have a balance, especially if another 4 to 5 players are needed.
