I wonder what was going through FdB's mind as he held up the 17/18 away jersey for that picture. In an interview in The Times today he quotes his hero Johan Cruyff, when he was at Barcelona, saying, "How is it possible the away kit is black? Everyone in the stand wears black, so in a split second you don't see your team mate. You need bright colours so you can see directly." Perhaps anyone tempted to purchase the new away jersey should hold off for a few weeks!

The players never liked the black 'sash' shirt and stopped wearing it for the same reason. I imagine it'll be a hit with the HF though

On the basis that these days there are so many in the stands wearing replica shirts it all becomes a bit of a nonsense. The giveaway to players is their team mates are the ones on the pitch rather than those in the grandstands. 😉
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Object Fixation, innit. Anyone who rides a motorbike will know that if you look straight at a pothole in the road, you will ride into it, despite your efforts to steer around it. This may well be one of the reasons goal keepers seem to dress if they work for Dyno Rod: it increases the chances of the ball being fired straight at them. For that reason (Steeeve) a goal keeper should never wear black, no matter how cool it looks.

Totally agree, the yellow strip would be much better for picking out team mates. Just maybe FDB's apparently preferred style change with short passing or long balls to the wings, will mean no problem picking a team mate in midfield and with our wingers disguised on the wings might fool their markers?
