So we're being linked with a few different defenders I wonder how many we need and how many we'll actually sign. Prior to Sam making some signings we looked awful and it's made me think that now Sakho is off the table maybe we'll be looking to bring a handful in. Left side is covered by Schlupp, PVA and Pape Could we be going the same route and signing two RB to give plenty of cover? Tete, Veltman and Ward would likely see RB sorted for a few years. Then CB currently we have Dann and Tomkins with Kelly and Damo in reserve. Two more CB would give us a decent three to pick in every position? Zouma and Rami? Wouldnt be a vast out lay to sign all four mentioned and would really add competition right cross the back line. Tete - £4m (All figures are assumptions) Do we need that many or would it be over kill? Edited by Goldfiinger (02 Jul 2017 9.13pm)

Normally in a 25 man squad you'd have 3 goalkeepers (tick*) , 8 defenders , 8 midfielders(including wide men and attacking and defensive), 4 strikers and maybe 2 ultity players like Kelly that can play numerous positions and maybe a midfield that do the same. If soaure fully recovers then him and PVA are your left backs. 4- centre backs - Delaney , Tomkins, dann, new player, right backs 2 - ward and new player and you also have Kelly who can cover anywhere across back 4. Hopefully not left back because last season was terrible. I'd say 9 at most

Bit disappointed we missed on Matthieu joining sporting L from Barca . Yes he's 33 but a talented defender.

We are so aware of what went wrong last season. Our defence melted and combined with injuries it was in tatters. Parish and FdB main concern is not to have a repeat of last season. For that reason alone I'll be surprised if we don't sign at least three defenders possibly four. All of which I'd imagine will be a little better in the ball than our current crop. The good news is it doesn't look like it'll cost us a fortune. Third time lucky with Chelsea loans maybe ? Zouma £6m (loan fee) And possibly one more? Although the above should be enough. Gives us right back options of: CB options of: Left back options: May seem like over kill on CB but let's be fair Kelly and Damo are very much third choice emergency cover...

Why would we sign 4 defenders. Also if reports are, to be believed then rami and Tete are completing moves to France, in the next few days.

Didn't realise pulis wrote on this forum. Whether you rated them or not we won't be buying 4 defenders. It will be a maximum of 2. Maybe 3 if Scott dann departs. Kelly and Delaney signed new deals. All those Centre half's everybody is going on about how many of them play left side apart from Demo and of course Sakho (plse get him back) the rest seem to all play right side where we have at least 3 plays available Dann,Tomkins and kelly.

With Terry and Ake gone and with Chelsea back in the champions league I cant really see Zouma going out on loan anywhere.
