I have a feeling that McCormick once ran the 'Drum & Monkey' pub in Croydon but I could be wrong about this.

Was it called the Bird in Hand before it changed its name? In Gloucester Road under the bridge.

Met him and Tom White in the mid-sixties when they presented the trophies at Thornton Heath and Norbury Cubs Football league presentation evening (cant see many doing that these days, free of charge). Was really nice and was impressed that we did the double!! RIP John

We've had a number of quality centre backs over the years and the great John McCormick was, allowing for the style of football played when he was with us, one of our finest. One of my all time favourites. Farewell and RIP.
The Team (3-5-1-1): John Jackson; Alan Stephenson, John McCormick, Jim Cannon; Don Rogers, Geoff Thomas, Stevie Kember, Michael Hughes, Peter Taylor; Johnny Byrne; Cliff Holton. Subs: Julian Speroni, Kenny Sansom, Bobby Kellard, Ian Wright, Mark Bright, Andrew Johnson, Marouane Chamakh. |

I'm not 100% sure, but I think he played in my first ever Palace game (see below). Even if not, I remember that he began that season as Palace's inaugural 'Player of the Year'. It's fair to say that in the relatively few times I saw him play, he certainly "got stuck in"!
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr (Taken From FB) Not sure really how to get the message out so though that maybe this would work. As you can probably see by my name i am the son of John McCormick ex Crystal Palace "stalwart" from many years ago. Wouldn't usually post much on face book but just wanted you guys to know that "Big John" passed away peacefully today at 9.45am family have all been by his side to say goodbye to a great man and father. I replied:my condenses John was my hero as young boy his strength of character shone through. He never knew me but I love that man still do
